I wouldn’t recommend a special trip to Port Gamble, but there are a few things to spend a few hours or half a day doing. Most of the shops are overpriced yawners, but the general store is very different. It has a cafe, coffee shop, and general shopping. Don’t sleep on the second floor seashell museum.
This place is a real kick to visit. Take the kids. Has a lunch counter in back and a museum upstairs. Great views of the bay outside. In the square is a big anchor from a tugboat. The sign says "tug anchor". So I did, and it didn't budge. Other shops to visit in this popular out of the way place.
Great place to stretch your legs after being on the ferry. It's a fun place to find that little something for someone special. You need to check out the shell museum upstairs. Great for the person who is not a shopper. Then, in summer, you need to check out the Pope Talbot museum in the basement. It is small, but it is worth checking out.
