We made 5pm reservations on a Monday night, but it turned out they weren't necessary on a rainy evening. Reservations are normally recommended, especially later in the evening, on weekends, or during the summer. The decor is unique. I had two starters for my meal: the Brussels sprouts and smoked salmon on flatbread. More salmon would have been nice, but it was all tasty. My husband had one of the specials, and he was quite happy with it. Our server did a great job. We learned that the restaurant had recently reopened under new ownership, but it appears that they're not making a lot of changes right away since everything seemed similar to our experiences there pre-pandemic.

We booked the Ajax for our employee party, they closed the resturant for us. Jay was great in communicating with us in the weeks leading up to our event. He was extremely accomadating and very kind! Our team was greeted with a warm welcome to a beautiful set up. Our server was extremely attentive and made sure our needs were met at all times. The food was phenomenal & the handmade desserts were to die for. Would highly recommend to anyone the Ajax Cafe! Thank you Jay and Michaela!

If you are in the area you must go here at least once. We came here several times over 20 years ago and then we just came back here for a weekend getaway. Every time we've been here the food has been amazing. On this visit, I had beef brisket, with mashed potatoes and a cream sauce which were fantastic. My wife had the Mediterranean sauté, vegan. We also had fried brussels sprouts as an appetizer. Everything was fantastic! The service was outstanding, our waitress was very attentive and friendly. I had a Manhattan and then my wife and I both enjoyed the Cabernet Sauvignon. Everything was excellent and memorable. We will definitely be returning.

Five of us enjoyed excellent lunches on a quiet Sunday. The server was apologetic for the ling waits for ordering, and the arrival of drinks, but we were there to enjoy ourselves and were pleased with the cocktails and our delicious meals. Don't plan on a quick meal as the staff are only just adjusting to the new lunchtime service and new ownership. Enjoy a glass of wine, a beer, one of the house special cocktails, or choose a mocktail and relax. The falafel bites are crispy delicious, the salads fresh and varied, the sandwiches are generous and on great bread. The olive oil lemon curd cake is absolutely worth a try.

This was our first visit back in years. The restaurant is very charming and eclectic, and cold. Unfortunately there was an issue with the heater so it was quite cold. The Caesar salad with smoked salmon was exceptional. The quiche was served cold on a plate with salad, so we sent it back to be warmed up. The vegetarian chili was delicious, but not served hot.Lunch service is new here, so hopefully they will work out the kinks as it's much needed in the area. Service was very friendly.

This was my first time trying Ajax and I’ll definitely return. I really enjoy the atmosphere and it’s location being tucked away on a street with a working class feel. It’s away from the hustle of Port Townsend. It’s a place that makes you feel like you’ve found a gem in an unassuming place. So let’s call this review a 4.75. The food was good but didn’t totally hit for me. I do think it hit for my girlfriend tho and I tried her ahi tuna which was admittedly better than my dish. The salmon I had was cooked very well, texture/wise, and I think the flavor profile they’re going for made sense to my palate but something about it was slightly off that made the food just a 4 star for me. That said, the food was good enough for me to really want to go again. The restaurant is super interesting and I feel like I didn’t explore it enough. Same with the menu. Plus it’s such a beautiful drive to that area. Will return!

The restaurant is small. It's tight. It's loud. It's also charming and fun.The food is also quite delicious.The four of us ordered:Chick pea fritters with tahini starterSmoked salmon on flatbread with herbed goat cheese, tomatoes, red onions, capers starterStuffed chicken with veggies and potatoesAhi tuna with ginger rice and miso sauceBeet saladWe were happy with everything, but the beet salad contained such tiny wisps of beet that they didn't even really taste of beets and pretty much disappeared.The other dishes were great. Everything was cooked so nicely, particularly the veggies and the saucing was so tasty and just the right amount.
