Informal thoughtfully done Japanese food. Super tasty, ordered entirely off the specials menu. Nice balance of fish and other items. Very helpful staff with smiles and weak English. Needs a strong vegetable dish!

I know some people can be put off by the seat yourself, put your order at the bar, and then sit back down and wait. That's not an issue to me. What is an issue is basically lack of total communication with the wait staff. You pay for your meal upfront (something that I usually only expect at buffets) and then you wait. I’ve been to Hanazono several times during my visits to Port Townsend over the last year and a half, and the food has always been consistently great. I live in Sawtelle Japantown in LA so it’s really lovely to have a place with great and comforting Japanese food when I’m out of town - they have specials that rotate so there’s always something new to look forward to as well. They also have a great sake selection.
