What great fun reading the reviews for the wonderful Pane d’Amore bakery in Port Townsend. Imagine fresh, chewy crust, perfectly baked; makes you feel on top of the world, strolling down the street, tearing pieces, hand to mouth, a grin across your face like an upside-down rainbow. Seems some people have too much time, haven’t discovered gratitude and don’t really know how good they have it. I just read complaints about the price, a complaint about the customer service at the farmers market 30 miles away and a complaint that a loaf of beautifully baked bread is less worthy because it is now 2“ shorter than it was in the 1960’s? We come from a midsize town, Flagstaff, AZ that does not have a single artesian bread maker. So today, to stumble upon d’Amore’s Kalamata loaf and Sourdough baguette, well great golly, this will be one of those unexpected high points of our trip (don’t tell anyone we are tourists.) Another review complains that the cost is so high that only a tourist would be able to afford. Well, if that is the case, then I recommend any tourist reading this jump in their private jet or yacht because that is what all tourists own these days and head over to this bread shop to partake. For anyone not willing to part with their hard-earned cash then Safeway is close by and has something like bread for just a couple of bucks. In all seriousness, whomever runs d’Amore, cares deeply about bread and I believe cares just as much about community. They make GREAT bread. Should be proud of that, because it is not easy to do- head high! Bake-on!

Been getting chocolate croissants here for years, but the last 6 months or so they keep shrinking in size and the baked goods have been getting darker and darker…like crispy and dry. I don’t know what changed but…

Pane d'Amore's gluten-free buckwheat bread is very good, as are their GF sugar cookes. The bread is their best-selling item!

The best bread and bakery, hands down!! A must stop when you’re in the area! The food coop carries their bread. It sells out fast!!

Grilled cheese with pickles and Salome on sourdough seedy was exceptionally tasty.

Amazingly friendly service. Not the full selection that uptown has but a good selection for a quick lunch.Only thing that I can say "negatively" is that sometimes the focaccia has WAY TO MUCH flour on the bottom, making it rather unpleasant to eat. I much more prefer the corn meal. But always a great experience and wonderful staff.

Very friendly people are working there! We stopped there with kids when the shop was unfortunately closed but had pleasure watching them baking bread through big windows - people were very cheerful and super friendly! They even offered the kids something to try and it was delicious! They made my day ? Of course we want to support this wonderful local business and intend to buy different types of bread once they will be open!

When we visit PT, we never miss Pane d'Amore! It is well worth the walk to Uptown, or drive if you must, but do not miss this outstanding bakery! And speaking of 'out' and 'standing', there was a line of like-minded shoppers stringing out the door, for more than just COVID caution. My personal favorite is their cheese stick, a sour dough long tiny loaf sprinkled with cheese, melted to perfection. A close second is their almond croissant.

Every single pastry we bought was amazing. We live in Skagit county and after leaving Port Townsend after a great getaway, we kicked ourselves for not buying more pastries at the bakery. The gluten-free brownie was out of this world, the custard and berry cookies, we could’ve eaten a dozen apiece, croissants were so good too. The only downside, was that the bakeries cash register was not accepting debit/credit cards so we had to walk down the street to the grocery co-op and buy something in order to get some cash back. Word to the wise, it’s always good to have some cash in your pocket. Would go there again, would also recommend anybody heading to the uptown neighborhood to stop in there and indulge, get yourself a box of a little bit of everything.
