I've been a customer of this restaurant for years. Great food, portions and waiters. Several months ago the portions were cut in half by using smaller serving plates. The only exception was the House Fried Rice but the meat and seafood included with this dish was drastically reduced. Mainly rice. Very disapointed as this was one of my favorite restaurants. Hopefully these changes don't push customers away. Usually happens and eventually goes out of business.
So I’ve been here twice in the past two weeks because I loved the food so much! I got the kung pao tofu with a side of rice both times and it was delicious. They remembered me the second time I came in and the service was fast and friendly. A very nice lady even offered me free soup because they had too much at the end of the night. Ballard Mandarin is a great place for American-style Chinese food favorites like General Tsao's chicken, green beans, tofu stir fry. I'd skip their crab rangoon. The service is always really funny and sweet, with a server who likes to give recommendations and bring extra soup to your table. The bar in the back is fun with great bartenders. Karaoke night is usually a good time but can get pretty crowded. Their green jade vegetables are garlicky and delicious!
