As others have said, this is the best bakery in Seattle - by leaps and bounds. Croissants so airy and flakey it’s like eating buttery clouds. I check back here often to see if they’ve reopened, and sincerely hope with all my quiche-loving heart that they do reopen.
By far the best bakery in Seattle. Their croissants are excellent. Their quiche is creamy and crispy and buttery. Never had a bad or average pastry here. I really hope they re-open.
Updating my review. I've gone too many bakeries in the last few years looking for the BEST croissant. This is my absolute go took place. When I was in Paris my mission was to taste as many croissants as possible - this places is on first level. Butter, flaky and baked to perfection. Plain is amazing and the chocolate is perfecting.Best croissants in town ??
*Update! Bought a variety of pastries the other day, waited in line for maybe 15 minutes but 100% absolutely worth it! Everything I got was so fantastic, fresh and absolutely delicious!I just had a coffee but it was delicious and I'll be back for some pastries soon! They all looked absolutely fantastic ?
Somebody give this place an award already!?!?Light buttery flaky melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness.
Thank you so much for making sure I got my order on Christmas Eve! I don’t know who the employee was who dropped them off at the hospital (I’m a nurse and couldn’t get there the day before because of the ice storm) but I can’t thank that person enough. The desserts were absolutely delicious-thank you guys! Favorite bakery in Seattle
Neat little neighborhood bakery coffee house place. Pastry was beyond expectations, very high end. Whoever's in the kitchen putting this stuff together has the magic. My Americano was also great, naturally sweet big coffee flavor, because they have the grind and dosing down just right and use good beans.
Besalu is a longtime favorite. You can't go wrong with a croissant and jam.
Given all the hype, I wasn't impressed with pastries, but the quiche is good. The first time I visited, I wanted something savory but the only item left at noon on a Saturday was the spinach quiche. It was surprisingly delicious and flavorful! My slice was only about half the size of the takeout box though which is not normal when compared to pictures I've seen in other reviews.I came another day to try their ham and cheese pastry and the gruyere and onion. They were very buttery and flakey but were *way* too salty for my taste. I could barely taste anything else. I got both on the same day so maybe it was an off day.Not sure I'd try these pastries again, but I might come back for the quiche.
Best ham and cheese croissants in the city. Everyone is so nice at Besalu, and every pastry I’ve tried is consistently delicious. Because they make such yummy treats and it’s a small bakery, they can quickly form a line, but they do such a great job of moving through efficiently, so don’t let a long line deter you from a scrumptious morsel.

By far the best chocolate croissants in Seattle! Really all of their pastries I've had are phenomenal. They use coffee beans from Herkimer, and I'm a big fan of the mild earthy flavor of their coffee. Particularly the lattes are great, rich and not too sweet like some other places.
"Oh snap!" is all I can say. Had a croissant with bacon and it's a good thing I was sitting down. Buttery? Check! Flaky? Check! Light and fluffy? Check! Check! My day was done after eating this bit of heaven. Do yourself a favor if in Ballard and get a bunch of these to share with friends.
Small, neighborhood bakery. There is usually a line outside the door, but it goes quickly. There are benches outside for waiting and for eating, and a few tables inside as well.Their croissants are some of the best in Seattle. They're buttery and flaky and have beautiful layers. We also tried the onion gruyere croissant. It was chocked full of flavor-- the onions were perfectly caramelized and the cheese was slightly crispy on top.
Googled coffeshop and Besalu popped up.. I mentioned they had great reviews and this was my first time in. I ordered a beautiful machinations and the Barista gave me a chocolate croissant on the house! I highly recommend this place . Great customer service and coffee and awesome customer service!
Excellent selection of home baked goods prepared right on site! Good espresso too. Been here many times. Weekends they are lined up out the door.
