Visited Seattle from New York and had to come out to support. The atmosphere and the host were amazing. They gave great customer service. The food is very different with a plethora of flavors and textures. I'm no big on spice to some items were a lot for me. The HOCAKES! I would fly back to Seattle for, they are AMAZING! This is definitely a place you should come to try.

The fried pork chops were amazing. The fried chicken wings were delicious. The macoroni-n-cheese was so good. Nice atmosphere, friendly service. It was very pricey though. We spent $940 for 7 people.

As many many many other people have already stated reservations are meaningless here. I’ve come twice both times with reservations and had to wait roughly 45 minutes to get a table. Both times when we finally got a table our party had to sit outside in the cold. The only time I’ve actually seen the inside of this place is to use their restroom.
The service is fine, nothing special. The food is good, but the experience is really lacking and makes me never want to go back. This place could be truly incredible if it sorts out its reservation issue and service issue.

Dietary restrictions: They helped guide me to the menu options I could eat with my dietary restrictions. Very happy.

Probably the best meal I've had in Seattle. Dumplings were perfectly executed. The hoe cakes were a textural and flavor delight. The ramen-ish was incredible, and I've never in my life said that of a ramen-related dish from a non-ramen-specialist spot. The catfish was incredible, speaking as someone who's spent a year in New Orleans and 2 in Atlanta. Both in terms of preparation, which was frankly genius, and in terms of the quality of fish itself - the texture and flavor were beyond anything I'd imagined you could get out of catfish.
Great drinks, our server Niles took great care of us, impeccable vibe.
Do yourself a favor and eat here.
I was in Seattle visiting my brother & Communion was recommended several times. I made it a point to visit as it was Black History Month & I wanted to support a local Black owned business. The food was ok. My dining partner & I got the hoe cakes & hood sushi to start. The hoe cakes were mouthwateringly delicious! I would definitely 10/10 recommend. The hood sushi? It was fine , but not something I would go back for or recommend to any sushi lovers. For the main we got the OG HUMMUS WITH lamb. It was good, but not great. It didn’t make me want to lick my fingers & lick the plate great. We also got the greens which were a no for me. They were bland albeit we didn’t add the smoked turkey. It is pricey and very cozy (space is tight). It’s a cute date spot if you’re wanting to splurge. I don’t think half stars are a thing on google, but if they were I’d give a solid 3.5/5 stars.

Don’t walk—teleport there ASAP! Asia, our waitress, was absolutely fantastic—attentive and friendly. As for the food, it’s hard to put into words. Everything was so tempting, I wanted to try it all. A must-try is the shrimp sauce—save it and use it to dip the chicken wings; it’s a game-changer. I’ve never seen okra so huge, and that alone tells you the quality is top-notch. The ‘hood sushi’ is a standout, and if that doesn’t tell you how good it is, I don’t know what will!

I wanted to like Communion. Unfortunately, it missed the mark for us. The pinto beans were the highlight of the entire service. The worst dish was my pork chop which could also be compared to a hockey puck. It slid all around my plate while I tried to saw into it. It was overcooked and bland, the gravy it came with was over seasoned and seemed to be the compensation. The catfish that my friend ordered turned out to be a deep fry like at Anthony's but also lacked in seasoning. We ordered about 5-6 dishes and left hungry. Service was pretty subpar, I think if you're going to drop $200 (for two), you should at least enjoy it.

Food was good, but not so good as to warrant the pricetag. Music was far too loud outside where we were sitting. We were given different/conflicting menus (the menu changes frequently, apparently) so it took a bit longer to get our order in. We enjoyed our meal but we likely won't come back for seconds.
