One of the best meals I’ve ever had and the service was immaculate. Everyone was super warm and welcoming!

After not having been there for a year we made a Wednesday night reservation. We were immediately seated when we arrived. Both hostess and waitress were friendly enough. The menu was a bit of a surprise. Things have changed with what seems like fewer selections and less unique choices. Over all the dishes tasted overly salty, from the sauce on the dumplings to the mussels and clams to the salmon and shrimp. Just didn’t seem the same quality as it was before. Waitress seemed a bit put off by the 20% tip even though the house had added an additional 5% automatically to the bill. Somewhat disappointing experience.

I have been to Communion three times now and have had 5 star service, drinks, food, and a great experience each time. Their food is SO. GOOD. You MUST get the deviled eggs and unc’s wings. Communion’s food looks incredible, tastes even better, and they never miss. I just love that, each time a plate was set down in front of me & my friends, absolute joy and excitement lit up our faces and then our bellies :) Cannot recommend Communion enough & while it may seem like special occasion kind of place, each dish tastes like home and I never need a reason to go here other than, I feel like it. Please do not wait for an excuse to celebrate, and get yourself to Communion for an amazing meal.

Service was minimal at best. We were on time for our reservation, but waited 15 minutes outside for the hostess while a server walked by four times without acknowledging us. After being seated, we waited another 10 minutes for a server to approach us. On top of that, they tack on a 5% surcharge, and the tip options start at 20%.

The deviled eggs were under-seasoned and came topped with canned fish instead of the breaded oysters listed on the menu.

The catfish was the highlight—moist and well-seasoned—but the accompanying grits were completely bland.

The wings were nicely fried, but the meat and breading itself lacked flavor (could only taste a mild spice).

The hoecakes were one of the better dishes, with a pleasant hint of sweet potato. The peaches were slightly overpowered by cinnamon but otherwise nicely balanced.

This is one of the best places I’ve ever had food in Seattle. Everything was spot-on delicious and soul food as I grew up with as a mixed black kid. The collard greens ARE NOT TO BE MISSED! The steak was perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. Skip John Howie—he cooks white guy steak without even salting the meat. The mussels, the okra, the green beans, the wha wha!!! All of it is amazing. The chef does not disappoint.

Ok. Let’s take it to another level. The drinks are equally as good. I’d recommend the brown liquor which is an old fashioned that drinks like a mint julep crossed with those southern sweet tea flavors. It comes in a bottle so if you need to take it home, go ‘head.

It was a pleasure to sit at the bar with Ashanti and Damon who are masters of their craft.

We will be back. Repeatedly.

Only thing that’s tough is getting into the restaurant. You need a reservation and on a crappy rainy Seattle night you need an indoor table.

I don’t say this often, but this spot is one of my new faves. Pro tip, make a reservation. I love that they change up the menu and use local vendors. We got the deviled eggs. So decadent. We got the clams with Laos sausage, one of my must eats. We got blackened salmon special which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. And we got the jerk chicken with magical ranch. The mac and cheese and the okra were chefs kiss. It was so dang good. I have a less common Asian name and they said my name correctly and I can’t tell you how much that warms my heart. The staff was personable, friendly and made us feel so welcome. Communion is officially on my food rotation list.

Dearest Reader,

Whispers have reached even the most discerning corners of Seattle’s social circles — that a certain establishment in the Central District serves not merely food, but revelation. Upon my recent visit to Communion Restaurant, I discovered the rumors to be deliciously true.

One must speak of the Lao Sausage and Eggs Benedict — a dish that flirts shamelessly with both decadence and destiny. The sausage arrives with a confidence rarely seen outside the drawing rooms of Mayfair — fragrant, fiery, and utterly unapologetic. The eggs, delicate yet daring, yield their golden centers with a sigh that could start a scandal. And that hollandaise! So velvety, so flirtatiously rich, it might well earn its own title of nobility.

Communion Restaurant is no ordinary brunch stop — it is a sanctuary of flavor, a ballroom where soul and spice waltz in perfect time. Run by visionary Black creators who infuse every plate with heritage and heart, this is where one comes not just to dine, but to belong.

Until next Sunday’s scandal,
Yours Truly

I had been wanting to come here and I'm so glad that I finally made it! I was expecting the food to be good, but it still blew me away. The flavors of both the dishes and the cocktails were perfectly balanced and very interesting and compelling.

The biscuits were insanely flaky, the collard greens were soft but with a bit of bite, and the chicken wings had a crisp outside but were super juicy inside.

The service was also impeccable. Our host and waiter were both friendly, conversational, and approachable, but the service itself felt like a fine dining experience.

Honestly, I was blown away with all aspects and plan to return soon!

Really amazing soul food, with interesting influences from different cuisines. This season, it was Ethiopian. The food was so delicious. The standards, like Mac & Cheese, collards, etc., are really good. The service is wonderful. Love this place!
