For a hotel restaurant we were impressed with the fish and chips. It turns out the fish is battered in house and they make their own coleslaw slaw too. Possibility the best French fries I ever had.
The decor and vibe were old & in need of a refresh. It was clean and in good shape but felt like it's looked the same way for decades. The staff was fine. (She misunderstood one of our orders, but rather than just apologizing, said "You said you wanted __." She did get the new dish out to us quickly, though.) The food was great.
My server, Jonathan, was great. I ordered a ginger beer and asked if there were any flavors I could add to it. I told him about a black currant ginger beer I had earlier and he suggested adding lavender simple syrup and muddeling a raspberry in it. It was incredible. It was so nice of him to do that when he could have just said there's nothing on the menu like that. I had a great French onion soup and spiced cranberry apple cake served warm.
