I would include pictures of the food but I never seem to stop long enough to take them before INHALING the food.I come to Matsu any chance I get despite living an hour away.Everything about it is so consistent. Starting with the food. Amazing sushi that always tastes so fresh. I’ve never had a bad dish here before and I’ve eaten here many times. Their food is great during a normal night, the night after Megan Rapinoe’s retirement where there was a line out the door, and at happy hour. But it’s not just the food that’s great. Their staff is consistently friendly and SO good. I’m not saying that in a generic “you don’t wait 40 minutes for your check” way. If your plate is empty, it’s whisked away in a few minutes. Water glass empty? Not for long. Cocktail depleted? You’re quickly asked if you’d like another. It’s really high end level service that usually comes with a restaurant triple the cost. And the last thing I have to include is that their happy hour feels criminal. I recently enjoyed two bourbon cocktails, a 5 piece sushi sampler, two sushi rolls, and the complementary edamame for $45 before tip. That is such a great deal for this incredible level of service. If you love really high end dining, I absolutely recommend Matsu.

The service was terrible. The waitress brought out everyone else's food except mine; almost 20 minutes went by and everyone else finished eating so I told her to cancel my order. After another 10 minutes, the other waitress brings my food anyway, and when I told her I had canceled it because it took too long she pretended to not get what I was saying and kept offering to set it down or wrap it to go. When she came back later she was acting snippy and rude.

First off, we were really pleasantly surprised by Matsu. Being so close to the stadium I fully expected mediocre sushi served at cramped tables. The space itself is beautiful, Japanese inspired but also gives steakhouse vibes. The service here was fantastic, everyone we interacted with was polite and engaging. There was visible management both on the floor and in the kitchen which so rate these days. The sushi was all very fresh - we cleaned our plates. My only criticism is there’s no way you’re eating here when there’s a concert or game unless you’ve got an in, we’ll just have to become known regulars I guess.

Always excellent quality fish, but no true sushi chef assembling "Omakase." Nigiri was not served seasoned to eat, requiring soy and powdered wasabi for any flavor. I love this restaurant a lot, but it could easily step up a traditional Omakase sushi offering with a trained sushi chef onsite at dinner time.

They have the best happy hour sushi deals. The fact that you can get an exceptional old fashioned for only $8 is a steal. I can’t wait to go again.

The restaurant is attractive and comfortable. We were quickly seated with our reservation. The server appeared to be serving multiple tables, service was slow and attention was lacking but he was pleasant. The noise level was very high. The mushroom gyoza was a high point: best ever. Sashimi was fine, portions were good. The roll ordered by my companion was not inspiring but inoffensive. I wouldn't be inclined to return but others might have a good experience on a different night.

Excellent service and amazing food. Our waitress was very courteous and welcoming! She answered all of our menu questions and made suggestions. Food made it to the table extremely fast!!!!!! Best service I've had in years! Highly recommend this place!!

My husband and I were visiting Seattle and wanted grab sushi so we decided to try this place out. Very kind and friendly workers. We got the king street roll, poke roll and the pike place roll. We also got crispy rice with spicy tuna tartare as the topping. For drinks we grabbed the tropic thunder and a sake(i forgot which one my hubby got). Everything was delicious. I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant whenever I visit Seattle again.

Great service, beautiful ambience. I've been here years ago when they first opened, at the time I was more into specialty rolls, and the specialty rolls are good. Ankimo is still delicious, but when it comes to the nigiri, it definitely falls short. Rice is really overcooked.Uni - from Santa Barbara was NOT good, I almost threw up. And I'm an uni lover, it has that lower grade quality and flavor.Scallop tastes fresh and cleanIkura okay, too much rice ratioAmaebi was actually really good, but the head was served to me somewhat lukewarmBlue fin tuna sampler was probably my favorite, but the rice quality kind of ruined it, overcooked and not well portioned for the fish, and also a little too big for one bite.Negihama roll was good, simple, again rice is overcooked and just doesn't taste rightCalifornia roll and crunchy lizard, my son enjoyed bothSpicy tuna roll, did not like it, the tuna itself was too blended so it had really no fish texture, these kinds of rolls tastes better when the fish its chopped by hand. Was not spicy at all, asked for habanero sauce and they brought me a sweet habanero sauce on a plate. I just hate when there's that much sweetness on something spicy (tearssss)Anywho I was expecting a nice dinner with great sushi, but it's definitely a place with casual quality sushi components. I actually skipped Kura to come here, and I would've probably had the same experience there foodwise.Service from front to dining room, to leaving was excellent. Really great team they have working together.Beautiful ambience, nice intimate setting. I personally do not recommend any nigiri style sushi here, due to the quality of rice. But I can say if you order sashimi, you can get a decent meal sashimi style. Also wish they had better champagne by the glass options, a dry bubble would be nice, I decided on sake, and did not like the sohomare much, it had a bitter aftertaste, dassai 45 nigori was good, a little too sweet but I enjoy dassais.Sons passion fruit lemonade was really great!See photos

We are big fans of Momiji and Umi. We decided to spend Valentine's Day here and our server was amazing!! Honestly the best service we've ever had. Truly recommend coming, food was perfect, happy hour prices are great and larger selection for sure than the other two sister restaurants. The interior is gorgeous as well
