Great food. Great service.

The food was amazing. Well cooked and appetizing. I wish the music volume was a lil lower. My elderly mother was having a hard time hearing the rest of us!

We just had a terrible experience trying to get into the restaurant. This was on a Sunday morning. My daughter tried to make a reservation on Thursday, but there were no times that worked for us. So she showed up at the restaurant a little bit after 10 o’clock in the morning. She was told it would be about an hour wait or we could sit outside. It was 55° and a little bit breezy so she told them that we wanted to sit inside. We decided to go over one block where there was a farmers Market. After about 25 minutes we received a text that our table was ready. My daughter sent a text back that we were on our way. We went back to the restaurant, 5 to 7 minute walk. When we arrived the hostess said that she only had an outside table for us. We told her once again that we did not want an outside table and it would be OK to wait a little longer. They said it would be maybe 20 or 30 minutes and they’d have a place for us to sit. We went to the farmers market. After about half an hour past, my son-in-law went back to the restaurant to see where we were in line. He was told it would maybe be another 15 to 20 minutes we decided to stick it out. Another 15 or 20 minutes without a text from the restaurant so we decided to go back. We asked the hostess when would be seated. She looked a little surprised, and said she’d already seated our party. That was a surprise to us because we were still waiting. As were standing there, five people walked out, we were a party of five. There was a conversation between her and person I believe was her boss. The lady who seem to be in charge came over and informed us that there was no table ready for us. I told her we just I just saw five people walk out isn’t there a table for us? She It would be another 20 or 30 minutes before we would have a table for us. We told her that we believe they had given our table away and wasn’t there anyway to get us in sooner. She said she had to take care of the people who had reservations first and that a party of five was hard to fit in. No apology for giving away our table. I understand that she had an obligation to take care of the people with reservations but we’ve already been waiting for 90 minutes. We are told It was going to take longer, and there was really no way of knowing how long would be. At this point we became very disheartened and we’re hungry so we decided we go someplace else to eat.If the restaurant was at capacity and they had reservations to honor they should’ve just told us it was going to take 90 minutes or longer. That may have changed our decision to stick around.Maybe if we would’ve stayed at the restaurant rather than going to the farmers market they could’ve got us in sooner I’m really not sure. We do want to try out the restaurant and maybe we’ll be able to give them five stars. I would suggest to anyone that would like to go to this location that you had better make a reservation first. Don’t try to show up and get in because you’re gonna have to wait a long time and you may not get iin as what happened to us today.

Couldn’t believe how rude the service was. I have heard that it was mediocre but I’m taken back by the pretentious behavior by the staff. I think they forgot this is a service industry. I wanted to try it out myself, I could never recommend this cafe, the food came out barely warm.Save your money and go somewhere else!

Great

I've tried Portage Bay twice now and my feeling is kind of meh when it comes to the food (service was a bit shabby as well). You hear so much about Portage Bay and since a new one opened in West Seattle I finally gave them a try. The food is not bad, but with so much hype about the place I expected better.

We have now been here three times. The food is consistently poorly executed. We've had over-cooked eggs, under-cooked eggs, stale potatoes that are cold, bread that's not toasted, etc. When it gets busy, service is so slow it took us 30 minutes to even get coffee, and did not get a refill at all. It's also pretty small and echos so it gets EXTREMELY loud, to the point where it's difficult to have a conversation. It's a shame because the quality of ingredients is great, but the service and food execution is just not there.

We love Portage Bay in West Seattle, and we like to bring my 2 year old because pancakes and berries! Weekends are always busy and bustling and full of energy. Weekdays are delightfully calm. Either way, the environment is cozy, the whole staff is awesome, and the food is always delicious.

Incredible service from Josh -- super friendly while being wonderfully efficient. He streamlined my friend's special order by recognizing it was akin to a menu item, he never (intentional use of the absolute) let my coffee go unfilled, and we was just so pleasant. Then, things got better: Amy, the owner, did a table-touch! She was equally friendly and genuine (not one of those obligatory "how is everything?"). Love, love, love this place.

Marginal - just marginal. I have been here a few times. I love eggs Benedict - every single time I've cooked eggs. Ya gotta have runny eggs on eggs Benedict unless requested otherwise. Bland Hollandaise and not enough to make up for the lack of the runny eggs. Order was incorrect brought side salad said it had dressing on it. It didn't. The dressing they have I guess as standard was not good. Sweet and weird. I am giving it a 3 only because the wait staff is always fantastic and responsive and very pleasant.

Love this location. All the portage bays are awesome, but I’m partial to the vibe in west Seattle. Everyone here is so friendly.

If i were living in seattle this place would get me in trouble--- the service,, the manager (i think her name was sarah), were so amazing. Im leaving washington state dreaming of my next return to the cutest and quaintest breakfast restaurant. Whether you are local or just visiting- come get you some!

Only deducting one star for poor acoustics creating a very loud environment but other than that food, service and prices are excellent!

Our order wasn't correct and the food was cold. Food came back to the table at separate times so my wife and I ate separately. No real concern about the issues from our server/ expo/ host. Would not return based on this experience.
