I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place yet! I just enjoy myself so much when I go that a Google review isn’t my first priority. This time I got some good pics for IG stories so I might as well write a review too. Anyway, I have been coming here since high school when my friend, who grew up on Capitol Hill, told me about it. That’s a lot of years, folks! There is always a wait, but that’s a good sign! The bar is cozy and they make a mean manhattan, which goes perfectly with the low light, red hued atmosphere of the bar area. Ideal when you’re waiting for a table on a blustery PNW night. If you don’t want to wait in the bar, there are a ton of places nearby to grab a drink or some oysters (shout out to Taylor Shellfish around the corner). There aren’t a ton of tables and the restaurant is, like the bar, cozy (but more well lit as it should be). It’s borderline cramped but doesn’t cross the line. Basically perfect for an intimate dining experience with all the other Italian food enthusiasts. Now, to point, the food is amazing. Simple, delicious and exactly what you want from an old school Italian joint. The portions aren’t huge but they are satisfying. The Caesar is the best I’ve had at any restaurant (and I have had a lot of Caesars). Don’t skip the white anchovy add on. These are not the oily salt bombs that turn non-anchovy lovers off. The lasagna is a cheesy, meaty dream. It is rich and flavorful without being unwieldy. The true Platonic ideal. The spaghetti bolognese doesn’t look like much but it is incredible. A perfect medley of al dente noodles with succulent sauce. You will be dragging your bread through any leftover sauce after you have devoured the noods, guaranteed. There is a reasonably priced wine list that goes perfectly with all the food and the service a chill and friendly. You feel like you won the lottery when you get a window table and get you enjoy observing the bustle of Pine while savoring some damn good Italian food.

I can't say enough good things about Machiavelli. Suzette, Tracy and the rest of the staff are amazing, they make you feel like you came to their home for a meal. I'm not normally a steak eater but the filet there is life changing, be sure to get the side of veggies. I've been here countless times throughout the years, you can't go wrong with whatever you choose. This is the local Italian restaurant you've been looking for. Sometimes there's a wait to get in but it's worth the wait. Enjoy!

My husband and I came here for the first time on a busy Saturday night but were quickly sat at the bar. The bartenders were very friendly and had great drink recommendations. Food was delicious and of great quality.

This place has some of the best Italian food you'll find in the Seattle area, and the services outstanding , friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. It's a small environment and they really pack them in, and I don't think they take reservations. So I recommend you try to dine early or late. There's usually a line out the door during prime dinner hours.Given the physical environment, it's really quite loud. So I recommend this place for when you and your dining partners really want some great food. But I would not recommend it for when you really need to have easy conversation.

All you need to know is they don't give you white napkins for your lap. What kind of Italian restaurant is this!?Service was great though. Good was not.

The food is good. I liked the shells and especially the lasagna. My only complaint is that the portions are very small if you get the shells. You can forget about getting anywhere close to being full.

The pasta was so delicious that we tried to go back a second time before leaving town, as we were just visiting, but they were closed on a Sunday. Their pumpkin cheesecake was mouthwatering, I still crave it! When we got there, we were told it was a 90 minute wait, but our names were called after only 30 minutes. While we waited, we sat at the little bar and ordered some drinks. The bartender was very friendly and accommodating when making me an espresso martini. Everything about this place was great from the service to the drinks, to the food, to the dessert. I will definitely go back when visiting Seattle again ! Highly recommended!

It's just a staple in Seattle for Italian food. Service is always awesome and the atmosphere is perfect. Even if you have to wait for a table, go hang in the lovely bar while waiting. It's been a while since I've been but I can't imagine it has changed recipes because they work perfectly!

This place is just ok - cozy vibes and a fun triangular layout, but left still kind of hungry and the pasta was not particularly flavorful. Nice service though!
