I remember eating my first gyro. I remember the burst of flavor across my tongue, the fireworks of wonder that filled my mind at seasoning that didn’t burn me like my father’s favorite hot sauce.

It’s been twenty years since then. These days I’m a pescatarian, chasing the wonder of that lamb meat from my childhood. Until today, I was lost.

Samir is one of the most immediately heartwarming guys I have ever met. If you are in the area and you don’t visit you are making a horrible mistake! Go inside, get a rose water lemonade, treat yourself; both with Samir’s award winning smile, and his amazing food.

I first walked into Samir's almost 50 years ago...late '77 or early '78. He had just opened, replacing an utterly forgettable sub sandwich shop that had deservedly closed.

His menu hasn't changed much in fifty years, and rightly so. Samir makes some of the best falafel you can find in Seattle. His Baba Ghannouj and Fuul Mudammas are wonderful, and he has a lovely Rosewater Lemonade.

Samir himself is a delight. Warm...
