I visited Sushi Nori around noon and was lucky enough to be seated immediately without a reservation. Although the exterior / location of the building is not the best, the interior was clean and well-lit with an inviting atmosphere.
I ordered the pesto ramen and was blown away by how delicious it was.
10/10 experience, I will definitely come again when I'm in the area.
Great service and food for the price! The slices of fish were THICK. All the dishes were delicious and service was fast. Would definitely recommend.
Good enough nori sushi spot. Not the most authentic Japanese food but it is tasty. The karage chicken tasted more like Taiwanese popcorn chicken - it was tasty though!
The waiter messed up our orders and forgot one order unfortunately. They couldn’t check our order and had to ask us to point to the items on the menu 🤦🏻♂️
Free parking in the nearby garage after 6pm.
Mind you - the $45 chirashi looks like it’s of a big portion, but the rice only goes half as deep into the height of the bamboo container. There’s a partition inside that lifts the rice and makes it look like it’s all the way to the top. The fish were pretty fresh, though the chutoro sashimi were thinner than the other ones. The temaki had a rather good fish-to-rice ratio. This restaurant is for those who don’t mind the higher price point -averaging $6-7 for a regular temaki and over $10 for premium temaki, and $45 for a chirashi that’s half-full.
handrolls and ramen are delicious! Get the fried calamari & karaage for appetizers
Everything was extra delicious! Love it
The classic maki plate is easily the best maki I’ve ever had. Absolutely delicious, and a tasty selection of cold sake!
My friends and I went in before it got busy, with a reservation of course. The staff was welcoming and attentive, with wonderful hospitality touches of pouring our first sakes for the table, to clearing empty dishes promptly. The food was fantastic and made for a wonderful first time. Fresh, quality fish. The Omakase Set was the right move, along with the temaki.
We had omakse. Very tasty but not very imaginative. Basic sushi.
Nice miso soup. Great desert
Food was fantastic. Uni was a particular treat but I was surprised by the shrimp tempura and cheese. I am normally not a cream cheese + sushi fan but with this style of temaki it was very enjoyable.
Atmosphere had a light air which tended toward casual but was still quite nice and matched the playful temaki rolls.
I would be curious if the plastic is kelp based or uses some other alternative plastic, but I can understand it would need very specific properties to work as well as it does.
Restaurantji Recommends
This was a disappointing experience as I was looking forward to visiting this spot due to recommendations and high rated reviews on social media.
The main pros of this spot are that the servers were generally very attentive. The space was modern and clean - though it was slightly cramped.
Now, to comment on the cons:
1) The appetizers were quite dry and nothing to rave about - the agedashi tofu flavors were bland and the takoyaki batter lacked flavor. They were quite pricey too for the quality ($15).
2) The handrolls, which should have been designed to be the highlight, were very mediocre. The rice to fish ratio was very off - there was way too much rice and the rice was not seasoned at all. The fish too had too much sauce on it - although they charged extra for the higher-end fish such as the Uni, soft-shell crab, the sauce was overpowering and the fish did not have the high quality you would expect for about ~$20 per piece.
This place is designed for a fun out-going with friends on a one-time basis. However, I will not visit this spot again. I paid almost $100 and was not satisfied with the quality of fish and rice compared to other lower price point sushi spots I have visited in the past.
The sushi at this restaurant is quite good. I tried the signature hand rolls, and each one was excellent. However, the ramen was the real highlight. The broth was rich and flavorful, and the chashu was fantastic. Definitely worth a try for tourists.
I got lucky and managed to get seated without a reservation. The restaurant is small but has a nice, vibrant atmosphere. Just a heads up, you’ll need to find street parking. I ordered the hand temaki set and the chirashi bowl, and everything was fresh and full of flavor. They make it an easy and less messy experience to eat the temaki, which is unique to see. The sushi rice in the chirashi bowl had a nice vinegar balance, though it was slightly mushy. Overall, it was a great experience, and I’d definitely come back. 4.5/5.
Terrible service. I came in to grab some food for myself and a friend. The greeting from the host was a mere raised eyebrow. I thought ok, culture differences. Until a family arrived after me and they were greeted properly “Hello, how many in your group?”. I’d say expect great service if you’re in their target demographic. Many of us who aren’t will get a noticeable difference in service. Food was ok.
The sushi here is super tasty and really fresh.
They plate everything so nicely!
The staff is friendly and gives great service.
The place has a nice vibe, perfect for a good meal.
You can park in the building on weekends.
