“Despite nasty smoke in the Methow Valley, we ended up there and to make the best of the day we went for dinner at Sun Mountain. Shortly after our drinks arrived a black bear wandered past on the hill below. This was a good start to a fabulous dinner. We decided to go with all small plates, and plenty of them. The cucumber salad with a kefir dressing was the highlight of the meal with cucumbers and pickled beets in a variety of types and preparation that exploded with flavor. Another veggie dish, the smoked carrots with goat cheese gave the cucumber salad a run for its money in excellence. Next was a fine crab crake. Always a gamble when you order these at a restaurant. We won the gamble this time. Caesar salad was also a winner. The only dish that was on the weak side was the peach gazpacho, that was OK, but the peach was not detectable. Dessert? There was a sweet corn ice cream that was delightful. We will remember this meal and hopefully forget our otherwise smoke-wasted trip to the Methow. See y'all again when the valley is full of snow.“
