As a tradition, our family has gone to Paul's every Christmas for brunch since 2021. This time it was a family of 8. A real disappointment. There was egg shells in the poached eggs, loads of salt in the scramble eggs. There was no apology from management . They just offered us a free pastry and a 20% discount on the salty scramble eggs ($2.50). We added another order of pasta which they forgot and it was served 30mins later. We will probably not go there anytime soon. Frank
My spouse suggested trying Paul’s for lunch since we were downtown. I can’t speak to the food but I can say they need more help. The woman kept telling me just a minute while she was looking over receipts. The woman behind the counter said the same thing. They repeated the same comment several times before being told they needed to clean off tables. Finally I was told by the lady behind the counter she was going to take me upstairs.
Had she looked, I’m disabled and walk with canes. All I said was NO and walked out. Needless to say I won’t be going back. I’ll be sharing my experience with neighbors.

We decided on this place to celebrate my birthday. We were greeted at the door by an extremely friendly server who immediately took us to our table. He was attentive and knowledgeable, and so friendly and wonderful.
The food was fantastic. We had corned beef hash, and a mushroom omelette and dessert was fantastic. I took home a lemon pie and several biscuits that were all homemade. Just a wonderful experience and a fantastic atmosphere.

Food was fantastic! This is the diner food of your good memories. The service was so friendly and was the cherry on top of a great experience. I also LOVE the decor, the old time diner vibes are immaculate. 10/10, no notes. Don’t change a thing!

Sunday 4:30 pm.
Taking grandma to the train station, let’s get food before. so we stopped at Paul’s.
The service… outstanding!
She made us fell so welcome.
Food was perfect diner food, made with pride and joy.
Thank you Paul’s!
For being a Vancouver ICON!
Well deserved!
Kinda on the cheaper side, but a beautiful spot overall. The fact that they don’t serve chicken fried steak should honestly be a crime. Still, if you’re looking for a solid breakfast at a good price, Paul’s is definitely worth a shot.

I have pondered on whether I should review the experience my children and I had at Paul's Restaurant last week and decided I should give my feedback as I have been coming to Paul's for 30 plus years. I love that they have kept the look the same but cleaned it tremendously so it felt great to sit, the big windows always seem to grab the sun even on cloudy days. I even thought I could find the old tin of crayons Paul's had had by the coat rack, I think it was the same tin I used when I was young, this all to say it felt very good to be there. The staff were incredibly nice but not very quick or noticing that my coffee was out. Disappointing because I was there with my 3 kids and my grandson and needed to be refreshed. The food came out and the French toast and pancakes looked great and tasked very good. The price is too high for kids to eat a few pancakes and two pieces of artisan French toast. I ordered a Ruben and was highly disappointed on the amount of meat. There was one semi thick slab of meat on the Ruben, many bites had only bread and a small amount of sauerkraut, no meat. I have never seen a Ruben made this way and it was incredibly disappointing. I ordered fries instead of the salad to realize that this one small piece of meat, tons of bread and fries cost me $20.00. BLT also had very little bacon and a huge roasted pepper. I liked the roasted pepper idea, my kid did not but no problem because she took it off. The amount of pepper did not match the amount of bacon that was on the sandwich, again most bites were without bacon. In both sandwiches we were highly disappointed in the amount of meat. For this cost, and the history of these sandwiches meat should be the main focus. In the end the total bill for BLT with fries, Ruben with fries, Pancakes, French Toast and a kids French toast was $100.00 with 4 drinks. I am used to spending big when we go out because there are a lot of us, but when I left here I was disappointed and shocked that we paid that much for so little.

My wife came home wanting pot roast—craving an old-school, home-style supper. I know plenty of meat-focused eateries—Roots, Gustav's, Feast 316, The Hammond, etc.—but none of them serve pot roast. Fortunately Paul's in downtown Vancouver does. My bride had never eaten there, and I hadn't in decades. I was pleased to have the opportunity to try it again since it's under new management. I also wanted to introduce her to The Elbow Room.
Paul's is legit mid-century Americana. With a few exceptions, it's a time capsule of the late ’60s to early ’70s. It was a Friday night at dinner time, yet the restaurant was chill. Only two other tables were occupied. I ordered the beef stroganoff. Of course, she ordered the pot roast. The pot roast was so tender she easily separated it with a fork, sending a puff of steam rising from the meat. My stroganoff was pretty good. I liked the noodles; the beef was okay.
The Elbow Room:
My better half loved it. This was my third visit. The place looks like it’s straight out of a scene from Baretta or The Rockford Files—the kind of spot where a plainclothes cop might lean on someone named Sugar Bear or Big Sid sitting in a back corner.
INSIDER TIP: Toby Maloney is no longer associated with The Elbow Room, and bartender Mike is now heading up the cocktail program and doing a fantastic job.
The Verdict:
Paul's has a unique place in the restaurant ecosystem of VanPort. It has a comfortable, laid-back style with home-cooked meals from yesteryear. If you're looking for this kind of joint, you’ll be hard-pressed to find alternatives. You can take that to the bank. -VanPort Insider

I do not know why it showed one star because I never did a review. Until you emailed me about it. Took me awhile to even find this to respond. We enjoyed it. Good breakfast. I liked your syrup. Nice waiter.

Now that Paul’s has new owners, the place has been scrubbed clean top to bottom and a new scratch-made menu, it is top-notch.
We’ve had a fair sampling of the menu. And everything is delish. Short rib, shrimp and grits with bacon. Stroganoff will surprise you. Macaroni and cheese just like mom made. Simple green salad tossed in a light flavorful house vinaigrette
But the real piece de resistance? Southern lemon pie. Whoo boy. Wished I’d never tried it because it wouldn’t live rent-free in my head.
One of the best things about new Paul’s? Dinner service in a part of Vancouver previously lacking a cozy diner option where food quality is not sacrificed.
We’re so pleased to now have one so close to home. And hope you will give it a try too!

Had dinner and cocktails at the Elbow Room last night and brunch at Paul's this morning. GREAT SPOT! Nice owners and crew! Need a vegan option? They have a mushroom gravy biscuit available - and it was delicious!!
Looks like a diner but the chef dishes up some amazing culinary delights.

The outside hides the amazing food you find. All the ingredients are either made from scratch or locally sourced. They cure their own meat. No high fructose corn syrup on premise. With elevated diner and comfort food for a not elevated price. I had Shrimp and Grits and cleaned fhe plate. And the pie was worth it too! Even have Banaa Cream and Derby!!!
