This is one of the most authentic Thai restaurants in the Seattle Tacoma area. We eat Thai food wherever we travel and this place not only had dishes we’ve never seen nor had we ever eaten. The restaurant was loaded with gluten free options-more dishes were gf than actually had gluten on the menu! The dishes that we ate were those which my son and daughter in law & us had ever tried before and they were, without exception very tasty. We had loads of food, even with 4 entrees and 2 appetizers. And our two little grandsons immediately got their chicken fried rice before our food. Several caveats-1) make reservations to guarantee your spot, & 2)if coming via the Tacoma ferry give yourself at least 45 minutes to 60 minutes before your reservation. The island’s population has grown so much that the state’s ferry system has simply NOT kept up with the population growth. We missed both ferries to and from the island. We had not been to Vashon for over 10 years and had never experienced this enormous wait time especially on the weekend.

Had dinner here with friends who are long time residents of the island and it is their new favorite place. Glad they made a reservation because it was very busy. I am not familiar with Thai food and so had a very mild Pad Thai with beef. It was presented beautifully and there was enough left for a lunch the next day. One member of the group is vegetarian and she was very pleased with her dinner.

From the yummy spring rolls to our perfectly seasoned/prepared meals, we enjoyed May’s very much! You should make a reservation - we went on a Thursday evening, and the restaurant was full all evening. We timed it so that we would arrive on the ferry, eat, and be able to catch a ferry back without having to wait very long.

Kabocha squash yellow curry with fried tofu was delicious but the pad thai with pork missed the mark. The pork was overcooked and tough. The pad thai also seemed a bit dry and the seasoning was not my favorite. Portion sizes were decent.

best thai food i’ve ever had. unique dishes, plus the classics were delicious as well. decor was beautiful. service was friendly and understanding of our big party with kids. would hop on a ferry any day to come here. everything was great, especially the eggplant appetizer, string beans entree, and pad thai (more flavorful than the average place).

Just had an amazing dinner at May Kitchen + Bar on Vashon Island. Ordered the vegan Phad Thai with tofu, and it was spot on. Loved the fresh lime, bean sprouts, peanuts, and the perfect mix of sweet and spicy flavors. Sitting at the bar was a cool experience, especially when the bartender mixed everything together right in front of us. Totally unexpected and made the meal even better. Also unexpected was the live music with a talented acoustic solo guitarist. One of the best dinners I’ve had in a while. 5/5, highly recommend!

The BEST Thai food I have ever had. Worth the short ferry ride from Tacoma! Extremely friendly staff.

Dietary restrictions: Great vegan and gluten free option! Ask for coconut milk in their Thai Tea! Delicious.

This was a spectacular little restaurant in Vashon. We stopped when we saw a group of local residents all waiting outside the door for them to open at 4pm on a Saturday.
We're glad we did.

The food was well prepared and perfectly seasoned. I believe it was May herself that came to our table and mixed my wife's dish, asking her if she wanted a spritz of lime, how sweet, how spicy, etc. She described the ingredients one by one and wished us a pleasant evening.

Then, they brought out live music with an acoustic guitar.

Great night.

The staff is friendly. The food is absolutely excellent. We have been many many times and continue to love it. The atmosphere is also spot-on. You should try the cocktails they are excellent especially the Janet planet.

When May’s first opened it was incredible. But the quality has really gone downhill. I ordered a rice soup with tofu. But really it was just soggy rice. And the Thai ice tea was so sweet it was hard to drink. $50 for two lunches we barely ate.

Gorgeous restaurant with friendly wait staff. Ordered eggplant appetizer which was yummy with lime- no cilantro detected. All of our other food was single note and had so much sugar it was sweet. No spice and one noodle dish trades like it has bbq sauce. Very disappointing food in a gorgeous location.
