We stopped at the public market to walk the river and stretch our legs on our 7 hour drive back home from Spokane. We chose SOUTH to grab a snack. We didn't have a big appetite so we ordered guacamole with chips and salsa. Everything was rich in color and smell. I really enjoyed the mix of flour and perfectly seasoned corn chips. Both the red and green salsa choices were delicious. The guacamole was a little chunky, as it should be. What stood out was the freshness and quality of ingredients. My nine year old and I agree we had the best snack ever. Our server was really awesome and explained food sources and confirmed the tastiness we experienced was due to exceptional care for providing quality food. Then he said our bill was on him! ❤️ I've forgotten our new friend's name but I hope he knows how special we felt from his generosity and excellent service. We definitely can't wait to go back for full menu orders.

I’m not the type to usually do a review, but I was sorely disappointed with my experience at South and felt compelled to share.

We recently went for lunch on a Friday. There was one other group when we walked in, seated at the front. It was my mom, my toddler, and myself. They seated us in the back of the restaurant by the kitchens. I figured it was so the restaurant looked busier, which was fine. But then we watched 4 different groups of customers enter AFTER us, and they were all seated at the front—we remained alone and out of sight by the kitchen. I get it, we have a toddler, but to segregate your customers based on appearance is crappy service, and quite offensive.

Additionally, if you are looking for a filling and tasty Mexican meal, this is not where you want to go. My mother ordered the Sweet Potato Enchiladas, which came with rice and beans. Her enchilada was soggy, and the rice was cold. She was afraid to eat any more since cold rice is a well-known foodborne pathogen producer. Her beans were ok, but were the only thing hot on her plate. I ordered the burger (don’t judge—I’m pregnant so my options are extremely limited for food due to aversions). The fries were ok, the burger was a premade patty that had been steamed and slapped onto 10 lbs of mayo and an oversized stale ciabatta bun. Once again, lukewarm to the point where I was scared to finish it. Keep in mind, the restaurant is empty, we are seated right next to the kitchen, and our meals cost $18 each.

Our server seemed more interested in hanging out with what I can only assume is the manager, and while he did a great job keeping our drinks filled, we never received the chips and guac we ordered. Granted, he never charged us for them, but after everything we both walked out feeling dismissed and disappointed. I highly suggest looking for other restaurants if you are looking for Mexican food that is safe to eat and priced appropriately. And if you have kids, I don’t recommend taking them here at all. Pretty sure the only reason they are still operating is the craft cocktails, which if others are to be believed, you’d need about 2 to choke down the food and pray to god it comes back up before it makes you seriously ill.

Love the creative extras and unique recipes here! Absolutely delicious carnitas, poblano chicken and prickly pear soda. Wonderful and convenient location after shopping the rest of the market.

I was staying at the Hilton next door to Pybus Market (which houses this restaurant) for business and thought I would dodge in and grab a late lunch. I ordered the guac app and a burrito. The total was $51. It was take away, so no beverages or anything else. And the burrito was a la carte, it didn’t come with sides- also it wasn’t a “baby burrito” (as in the size of a baby) that would feed two hungry adults. This prepared burrito was about 6 inches long and reasonably thick. The guac came in a 4oz plastic container- so, half a cup of guac - which is fine for one person but they charge like it should feed the table. The burrito was very wet and messy and wrapped in foil that didn’t actually contain it only, no container. All that would be fine if it had been half the price OR been amazingly good. Seriously NOT worth the money - and I live in Seattle where everything is stupid expensive. I am in Wenatchee all week and won’t be going back to Pybus Market. Whole lotta nope. Too bad, it’s super handy right next door.

Highly recommend for vegan & vegetarian food. We got the sweet potato enchiladas and vegetarian tacos- both were so good. We could tell that the veggies and sauces they used were fresh/ made in-house. Sat outdoors on a pleasant sunny morning.

Vegetarian options: The black beans & rice are made fresh and vegan.

If you're looking for better Mexican food, go to Taco Bell. If you're looking for a good portioned margarita, go anywhere else. This is the whitewashed version of Mexican food.

South used to be our go to restaurant. However, we went for lunch just the other day to get our margaritas and guacamole and chips. When the guacamole came it looked nothing there normal smooth and creamy guacamole we eaten dozens of time before. It looked like salsa with a hint of avocados. It was full of tomatoes, I couldn’t find the guacamole in it. When we flagged down the server, he said they changed the recipe a week ago. I don’t eat fresh tomatoes so I had to send it back. I let the waiter know it did not mention the change in the menu and the server also did not warn us of the change. Our group will not be coming back unless the guacamole is changed back. We were so sad 😭. The manager was nice and comped that part of the meal for us since we had to send it back.

The atmosphere from the first second walking in was very friendly and and smelled very good. My family and I saw good reviews for this place on the Find Me GF app. I have celiacs disease and am highly sensitive to cross contamination, but that is not an issue here at South at Pybus. When our server Lisney first came to our table we were welcomed with a positive attitude and big smile as we were asked about our drinks orders. I informed her about my celiac off the bat because nothing on the menu is labeled GF. To my surprise she informed me that majority of the food can be made to accommodate whatever food allergies you have including celiac and they take precautions very seriously. Lisney even went about offering to speak to the kitchen to let them know to change their gloves, use new clean utensils, etc. when making my food so it can be safe for me to eat without having a reaction without me having to say anything. I got the Peruvian chicken tacos w/corn tortillas, Carnitas tacos w/corn tortillas, a side of rice and flan(the fryers are shared so anything fried would not be safe for celiacs). All of the food was immaculate not just for me, but for my family’s food as well. Overall, my family and I were extremely impressed and happy with the service Lisney provided and how delicious everything tasted. If I lived here in the state I would come more frequently just because of how safe I felt eating here as well as the atmosphere. Highly recommend!!!!

Dietary restrictions: Very knowledgeable for Celiacs and precautions are taken to ensure no cross contamination
