Los Hernandez Authentic Tamales

I remember buying some tamales some years back, so I bought my wife some tamales for the first time, bragging they were really good.
When we got home and open them they're the worse ever. They are waaaay smaller, no flavor, the salsa is just mashed tomatoes and water.
If you want to waste your money and be disappointed go there. Good luck.

I’m genuinely confused by the amount of high reviews here.
I assume it has something to do with the fact that they proudly display their receipt of a James Beard award and people don’t want to disagree with that and look culinarily incompetent.
Let me tell you, I wish I tried these tamales in 2018 when they received that award because there is simply NO WAY the tamales I had here were the same tamales from then.
Firstly, the masa was gritty and had NO FLAVOR.
We paid $2.69/tamale and they were literally smaller than my plastic fork.
An absolute robbery.
I would not feel morally ok about charging someone so much for such a small tamale.
(Yes, I know they are laborious to make as I have grown up making them as well).
I’m assuming once they received the award, they knew people would just come to try it so they gave up on giving anything of quality or quantity.
I have a child who quite literally only ever wants to eat tamales and she wouldn’t even eat hers.
Super bummed out by this experience and heed caution to others to note that they receive their award 7 years ago and what they serve today is not what one would expect.

Terrific people, these are fabulous tamales , I tried all the flavors. They had asparagus and it was delicious. Will get a dozen frozen to take home.

I've been coming here for years. And came with my parents when they were alive. Today was 1st time ever had to return my order. But they were exchanged out and I went on my way. Just patiently waiting on April for the Asparagus tamales 😍

Today ordered the chicken enchilada plate and it was good! They make chips to order so they are fresh. I have had tamales 🫔 before but wanted something different. The food is made fresh and it’s delicious. Will come back here again

We stopped in and wanted to get some lunch special for our family. The lady at the counter WV location wasn’t very friendly. It was like we were bothering her because we wanted to place an order. We should’ve left at that point but I wanted the tamales. The tamales were so mushy I wish I could post my picture. Horrible horrible. I don’t understand all the rave reviews these were inedible! Don’t waste your money

They have okay flavor but the masa isn’t even cooked all the way it’s still raw and they are the tiniest tamales you’ll ever see but they charge the highest in Yakima for raw tiny tamales I gave them another chance but won’t be back again.

We got take out. Lured by the reviews and the James Beard award. We made a special detour through Yakima because H remembered going there when she was little. We tried the asparagus tamales and the chicken tamales with a couple of home made salsas. It was delicious. It is worth the detour and next time I fly that way, I will stop by Yakima Air Terminal to get the tamales!
