The cashier was acting weird but worst of all is the food, these are the skimpiest tamales I have ever seen, they are flimsy and don’t even hold up and not to mention all the water downed salsa… has no flavor, nothing has flavor. Horrible experience and super expensive, paid $45 for a couple skimpy tamales and salsa with beans to have no flavor whatsoever. DO NOT RECOMMEND whatsoever. Eat here is you love wasting your money.

I’ve never understood the allure of this place. Honestly you’ll find better tamales other places. But 3 stars not to hate.

Really good tamales here in Yakima. I got the pork ones and they were great. The green salsa they put on is delicious.

The chicken and pork tamales were ok. Would be nice if they wrote the date and packaged them better.

One of the best tamales I’ve ever had in my life. So moist and tasty. Oh the salsa… You know the salsa is good when it makes you sweat! Don’t think twice before ordering it’s that good!

The best tamales around - we don't get to the Yakima area often but this is a must if you are looking for great homemade tamales - we, of course, had to get a dozen frozen to take home to attempt to hold us over until next time

I had no idea that Los Hernandez Tamales had a second location. I was really questioning the GPS when it was leading us there but it didn't lead us astray at all. I knew only of the Union Gap location which is not far from the Interstate and just a little south of the Yakima city limits. But this location does indeed have a Yakima address. In some ways I like this location a little more. There is just a few more tables and seats at this location than the other and if you want a beer to go with your meal you can have one. Menu is a little bit expanded as well which I am sure is good but we can never pass up these James Beard award winning tamales when we are in the area. The tamales are as good as ever. I had a pork one and a Jalapeño one and they were just out of sight like they always are. We get the meal usually and the rice and beans that comes along with the tamales are just stellar. So very glad to know that another location exists in Yakima. It's a bit of a drive from the Interstate, twenty minutes about but the extra bonuses would make it worth it not that the Union Gap location doesn't deserve just as much love.

When I come to Yakima to float the river 2x a year, a stop at Los Hernandez is a must!! Their tamales are excellent and so tasty. When it is offered you must get the asparagus and cheese and also the jalapeño and cheese for a spicy bite, but the standby favorites of pork or chicken are always good! I've been to both locations and their OG location will be reflected in a separate review. The staff here are so warm, friendly and kind. The most recent visit besides getting a dozen + tamales for our group, I ordered a tamale plate that came with beans and rice. That was so satisfying after driving over the pass.

I've been wanting to try the tamales at this place ever since I heard they won a James Beard Award, and from reading all the rave reviews. They were good, but not super flavorful, and they were pretty skinny. I had to add salsa to the tamales to impart more flavor. Maybe it's because I've tasted amazing tamales growing up in a Mexican household, or while visiting family in Mexico, or even while living in Los Angeles, that these tamales didn't live up to all the hype.

One of the main reasons for me to travel to Yakima is to go here and load up on their tamales to take home. My favorites are the chicken tamales and the seasonal asparagus tamales. They are well known throughout the U.S. for their food...They now have two locations - the original Union Gap location and the newer Yakima location... This time I went to the new location. Always great service. Fast and friendly. You can eat there or take home. I always just get the frozen tamales to take home.

Food that is simple and delicious, like real food should be. Not heavy and greasy like everything else in the area. Tamales are 10/10.

I was super disappointed as I was really looking forward to these amazing tamales I heard about.I am all about the jalapeños and cheeses tamales, my favorite. They had none, in fact she said they were seasonal, they only make them starting end of august through I think end of September how are jalapeño tamales not and every day thing? It's not like jalapeños are a seasonal pepper...They had pork, chicken and a " seasonal" asparagus with pepper jack cheese........ I was disappointed to walk away empty handed, just wanted some traditional tamales....... So if you are looking for a specific tamale , call first before you go and check......

Their seasonal asparagus tamales are the best I've ever had & the best in WA State. I'd drive from Seattle to Yakima for no other reason than the tamales at Los Hernandez!
