I've been meaning to get in here for a few years now. Lunch the other day was the perfect opportunity.
I sat at the counter and they were very welcoming. I had a great conversation with one of the owners and learned we have a mutual connection. Really nice folks and everyone working there seemed to be in a good mood even though it was a somewhat dreary day. Great service too.
Based on the weather, I went for the chili & grilled cheese special. Norbert (the other owner) makes it from scratch and it's a little different than the chili I make at home. More vegetable variety and some large chunks to make them easy to identify. Good flavor but no noticeable spice or heat. I asked for onions on the side and they brought me a nice little container of diced onions.
The grilled cheese needs it's own paragraph. It was made as soon as I ordered and chose the bread. They are bringing in fresh bread from a local bakery and I went with pumpernickel rye. Fortunately, it tastes way better than it photographs. They use a couple of different types of cheese and cook it open-face on the flat top. Once ready to serve, they flip side A onto side B and cut it in half. Killer grilled cheese.
There's a lot more of their menu that I need to explore and I'm looking forward to grilling some of the fresh brats that Norbert sells out of a couple of coolers in the dining room. Pretty sure one of those briskets is going to come home with me as well.

The owner has an amazing staff the food is just phenomenal I have never been to any other places better then chetek cafe I recommend it personally I go when I can for there breakfast buffet and I will tell you it is worth going if you have never gone worth every single penny got great service everyone's in a great mood every time I go in the waiters are on top of everything and the food is just delicious I'd recommend it to who has never tried chetek Cafe I'm going to be recommending a lot of people to go there it is the best place to get the most beautiful breakfast

Excellent diner and meat shop. The Strammer Max is my favorite. They offer German coffee, which is strong and smooth. There is an all you can eat breakfast buffet, and the food is off the chain. Very German influnced as the co-owner is from Germany and also the butcher for the meat shop. The German gravy for the biscuits is delicious. We bought prime rib from the meat shop and threw them in the grill. They were very delicious. The place is very busy on the weekend. Staff are great and friendly.

Now early I went to have breakfast, they have a Buffet and a la carte and what can I say, the food was delicious, the service was excellent and the prices were very competitive, the owner and her husband were very attentive and friendly, 100% recommended for everyone to visit.

Amazing gem of a place. I had the butcher's breakfast, and everything was spectacular. Ribeye was seasoned perfectly, and the German hashbrowns were amazing with onions and green peppers. They give you cheese sauce that goes a long way and homemade recipe that you can purchase to take home. It goes on almost anything. The service was top-notch and attentive. The atmosphere was also very welcoming. I wish I had come here a long time ago and the prices are very affordable.
