“Really exceptional bowl of chirashi. You have to look a bit to find this on their menu but it's there...just a bit buried. That's not really a surprise as I consider chirashi to be the hidden secret on a quality sushi places' menu. No exception this time!

Everything was nice and fresh plus the assortment was great! I enjoyed being able to note the differences between 3 different varieties of tuna. I really enjoyed the pairing of the salmon roe with the snapper and found the salmon to be melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Seared albacore was really tasty as well. Best bite of the night? The big eye tuna. I generally prefer bluefin but had both side-by-side and enjoyed the big eye piece more.

Rice under the lettuce threw me a little but I guess that was the chef's attempt to segment the dish a bit. I tossed the lettuce aside and enjoyed the balance of the dish, including the assortment of vegetables as well.

Chirashi is a great way to go if you're really just interested in the fish. The tables around me were heavily laden with trays and platters full of rolls that just oozed ingredients all over. I'm a bit more of a purist and really enjoyed the chirashi but I would guess their rolls are pretty fantastic as well, if that's your thing.“

“I have been a regular patron at Sushi Express for about 4 years now. I describe this place as a place to get “4 star sushi for 1 star prices”. Their menu is extensive, with many creative rolls, and their 2-roll or 3-roll specials are hard to beat price wise. My personal favorite is the Lake City Roll. The wait staff are always friendly, and I can only recall one time where I waited more than 10 minutes for my sushi rolls. I’ve also ordered delivery from here many times. I once waited over an hour for an order, and they gave me a $10 store credit upon realizing my GrubHub order didn’t go through entirely. Like any restaurant, these folks are human and 99% of the time you’re going to get great sushi with great, friendly service at a price that won’t break the bank. More cities need a Sushi Express like this one in Madison, WI. 5/5 stars for their delivery service and 6/5 stars dine in. HIGHLY recommend this place for anyone that wants great sushi but doesn’t want to break the bank.“

“This restaurant's best offerings are their American style maki sushi exploding with all kinds of fillings and toppings. The appetizers and other offerings are pretty basic. The nigiri was disappointing but as expected for this part of the country. The cocktail menu is interesting, but I haven't sampled much from it yet. The new decor is kitschy and over the top, but it imparts a fun, casual vibe if you just kind of relax and enjoy it. Some of the sushi plates had little orchid / flower sprays on them that were quite visually appealing.“

“I have enjoyed Takara since it opened on Whitney Way well over a decade ago. I can honestly say the quality and service are excellent, and it remains our go-to choice for a special celebration sushi dinner out. I also just hosted a 30-person work lunch, and Takara's manager, Jeannie took excellent care of us. The food was delivered on time and beautifully presented. Our group was so happy and felt like the Takara lunch was amazing and we would love to do this again when the budget allows!“

“First time here with my son, who found it on Google.
We came early for dinner on a Saturday, just after 4:30pm. It only has 7 or 8 tables.
We started with Miso Soup, Gyoza and Hot Tea and a Ramune Soda. My son had the Empire Lobster Roll and I had the Super Dynamite Roll.
It was all delicious.
Our server, Winnie, did a great job, especially after all the tables started filling up.
We will definitely go back here again when in the area. Our boys will be moving here this fall, so not too long before we return!

“This was the best tonkatsu I ever had. The bowl is like twice the size you get at other restaurants for the same price. It was packed with beef, tons of noodles and an egg (I ordered an extra). The broth was creamy and flavorful.

The server at the counter was really sweet and helpful and provided to-go containers, which you will most definitely need. Atmosphere is a food court, but with all the different offerings to satisfy our different tastes, it was exactly what we wanted. Will be back.“
