First time here for New Year’s Eve! OMG!!!! This place was sooooo awesome! My hubby had the prime rib and I had the Fillet. Fabulous great tasting! We are from Strawberry Point Iowa and will be back and will make sure all our friends know about this place!!!

Not the Freight House of Old! I have to give an average review because at best the whole experience was just average. The salad bar was ho hum - it used to be the freshest salad bar in town. The veggies were cut into giant hunks, like no care was given to setting it up. The croutons used to be THE BEST - now they are like any other crouton out of a bag. Our entrees were just okay - but for the price we paid they should have been exceptional. I watched my husband eating his prime rib as if he was a bear - there was no way to cut it, it was so tough. Medium came back raw, which looked the same as the medium rare one my son ordered. We should have sent it back, instead we took it home in a box to try and cook it better ourselves. Just sad to see such an iconic restaurant going down the tubes. Please bring it back to life!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely Outstanding!
The Freighthouse in La Crosse is hands down one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. From start to finish, everything was top notch. Our server, Lexi, was fantastic — attentive, friendly, and made the entire evening even better. The drinks were excellent, the salad bar was fresh and full of great options, and the prime rib and lobster were simply out of this world.
I’ve eaten at plenty of steakhouses throughout Wisconsin and even in the Las Vegas area, and The Freighthouse blows them all away. The quality, flavor, and service are unmatched. If you’re anywhere near La Crosse, this is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Teriyaki fillet mignon was ordered medium...it came well done. Not very tender at all. Service was mostly absent. Otherwise, decent place. Atmosphere is nice.
I had high hopes for The Freighthouse, given its 4.6 ⭐️ reputation and the unique setting, but unfortunately my experience didn’t live up to the expectations.
I ordered the 20oz Porterhouse, cooked medium-rare. While it was prepared to the correct temperature, it had absolutely no flavor. For a steakhouse of this caliber, seasoning and flavor should be the highlight, and this was deeply disappointing. I paired it with a baked potato, which honestly ended up being the best part of the meal — simple, but actually enjoyable.
On the positive side, our server Kristen (or Kirsten) was excellent. She was friendly, attentive, and clearly did her best to make the evening pleasant. Service was not the issue here.
The atmosphere seemed like it had potential with the historic building, but the dining room was noticeably smokey/hazy, which made it hard to relax and enjoy the meal.
Overall, this visit fell short. For the price point and the reputation, I expected much better. Good service can’t make up for bland food and a less-than-comfortable dining environment.

Close to Riverside park and all that's happening in LaCrosse.. you will not go wrong here The downside Always packed never not a wait
