Went with a girlfriend for a drink and the service was awful. Multiple customers during our visit had to ask for their bill or for attention to order. We ordered two grasshoppers cocktails (minus the ice cream) and when we got our bill we were charge for 4 pours of crème de menthe liquor for $25… blown away by the cost and by the number 4, we inquired with staff. We did not order a double or a martini, it was crème de menthe with chocolate and cream, shaken and poured into a glass. They understood our confusion and said they would get the manager to fix it. The manager came over, did not say a word to us, but indeed made eye contact, and changed the text on the receipt to say “2 grasshoppers” and re-printed us a receipt at the EXACT SAME cost. Extremely comical and extremely rude. Terrible customer service especially for a high-end establishment... While the drinks were yummy, a glass of cream with a shot of crème de menthe is very pricey here and I would not recommend. Get the old fashioned, more booze and cheaper! To top it off we were never asked how our drink was, if we wanted another, and had to flag someone down for the bill.

This is a fairly large bar with 18 seats, and 12 tables, located in the Edgewater Hotel. It's sister restaurant, the Statehouse, is a high end eatery with fabulous views of Lake Mendota.Augie's was named after long time owner of the hotel, who was jovial and friendly with patrons. I found this spot, certainly the bar, still seating talkative and genuine friendly folks. We came here on Thanksgiving Day, and enjoyed local brews (Spotted Cow) and a tasty Bloody Mary. PIC had the turkey dinner, and at $26, was a big MEH. It was all dark meat that was fatty, semi-good mashed potatoes and dressing and sprouts. Pumpkin pie was likely frozen. However, I had their Augie's burger, and at $18, it was a steal!! Two smashed patties, smokey strips of bacon, cheese, lettuce, REAL tomato, onions and drippy-but-yum aioli and crispy hand cut fries- I finished that baby off with pleasure!Patrons at the bar included locals and hotel guests, who clued us in to their Friday fish fry. Unfortunately, it was Thursday, so no dice. But... the fry includes marble rye, coleslaw, fries, tartar sauce, and cod for $18. And, there's a kid-size fish fry for $9. (I think they also have perch, for an up charge.)Both bartenders were very kind and efficient, especially for having to work on a holiday. There is free street parking a block away, or underground parking for a charge.Augie's is two blocks from the Capitol Building, and has large picture windows, looking out into the neighborhood. The upscale Statehouse restaurant is adjacent, with water views, but if you are looking for something more casual, Augie's is the spot!Side note... they had Clock Shadow fried cheese curds and eight different beers, all from WI local businesses.

Tale of two visits. My first visit was fabulous. Great ambience and great service. The menu is limited compared to the dining room but still plenty to offer. Dinner was just a salad topped with salmon but it was exactly what I asked for. My wine glass was never empty and the conversation was light and chatty. And it's walking distance from the downtown hotelsA week later I returned. Same great atmosphere. Food and drink were good again (I ordered the same thing) Service was not even close. After I placed my order, Will seemed to forget about me. Usually a wine glass nearing empty would prompt an offer to refill it from the bartender. I had to put the empty on the bar rail and stare at him to get noticed. After that, he never came back until I stood up to leave. No more wine or an after dinner drink for me apparently. He was standing close enough to me that I could hear him explaining his future career path to another patron but he only had eyes for the groups at the other end of the barWould I go back again? For sure. But if Will is the bartender, I'll make sure to sit right in front of him so I can give this place the 5 star review it deserves

It's hard to know where to start. First they have Guinness on tap they have harp on tap they have some incredible drink selections but let's go away from there and go to the food I only had the basically the fish and chips the batter was incredibly light it was not greasy it didn't detract in a fish the fish inside was amazing the chips were great decent french fries fresh as opposed to cook for 2 hours before the coleslaw was superb they've been a two slices of rye bread with it the rest of the menu looked very good it had sandwiches anywhere from 12:00 to $19 main meals anywhere from 22 to 42 or higher market price steak whatever that means in English and the appetizers look amazing so I'd recommend it if you're going to be in a first class hotel in Madison Wisconsin which isn't going to happen to everyone and barely happen to me I recommend this place it's got aesthetics and Keith and they do wear masks

Nice dining option if you are at the Edgewater for a stay or service. Extremely slow service and unorganized host staff. Would not recommend as a first choice.

Stopped into the bar before and after a charity event at the hotel. I thought the bartender (bald guy with a beard) was rude the first time, then the second time he didn't even acknowledge me or my fiance even though we were sitting right in front of him. After sitting at the bar for several minutes watching him dry glasses, we decided to spend our money elsewhere and will not be back if he is working.

Waiting 10 min to order, another 10 before getting our drinks (mostly water). Food so-so, but overpriced.

This is an upscale bar, so a little on the noisy side. Good draft beer selection, and cocktails. Their wine selection is limited. I ordered the cod fish fry. It was well presented. The taste was good but not outstanding. Service was excellent. I specially like that they don't pester you and they wait until you ask before bringing the check.

Friendly staff. Loved the smoked trout late! Very relaxed place.
