I did a lot of research for a place to make my wife’s birthday cake. After much deliberation, I chose Batch Bakehouse. The reviews were great and the photos very appetizing. Unfortunately, reality kicked me in the face and disappointment laughed in the corner as I cut into the $50 pastry. Since when does a multi-layer cake have way more frosting than cake? The frosting between the three layers was as thick as the cake layers themselves. Add to that the top and side frosting, and you end up with a big ball of sweetened butter. Not pleasant. Not even in the vicinity of pleasant. The buttercream was okay, but I ordered a cake, not a bucket of frosting. Don’t ask me what the cake tasted like, I couldn’t tell you as there wasn’t enough of it to get a good taste. Great service and a nice shop, but a very disappointing first experience. Will not repeat my mistake.

I came in ready and excited to purchase some goodies unfortunately with the aattitudes of the two working and their atmosphere was so bad I left with nothing.. will not be supporting workers who judge on appearances and color.

Finally stopped in after watching people rave about them online for almost a year. I ordered a chocolate orange croissant thing and let me tell you when I say that thing blew my mind like wow. I knew it was good from people raving about it but I was so impressed dropped the last bite on the floor and about died I was so sad 😅 the lovely lady also gave me a free shortie I was eyein up 10/10 recommend so good I will be back

Went in this morning and holy cow!!! They have SOO many options! There had to be at least fifty different breads, pastries, cookies, baked goods and sweet treats! I got the butterscotch mini bundt cake which is so frickin moist and delicious, as well as a ham and gruyere croissant. Hands down one of my favorite bakeries in Madison. The goods all look so cute, but taste amazing too. Don’t even think about it - just do it. Go in and try something - they definitely have something for everyone.

I’m a newbie to Madison and somewhat of a croissant connoisseur. I came here on a Saturday afternoon and had a wonderful experience. The employees, Heidi and Ben, were lovely - they were so friendly and were excited to help me out when I said it was my first time there.

I ended up getting a salted chocolate cookie and frangipane croissant at Heidi’s recommendation. I had the cookie immediately - absolutely stunning. The salt balanced it perfectly and the chocolate was rich without being overpowering.

Now let me tell you about this croissant - I wasn’t very hungry so I decided to save it for breakfast on Monday. Tell me why this two-day old croissant was the best croissant I’ve had in my entire life. The croissant was incredibly flaky and maintained a slight crunch after two days on my counter. It was filled to the brim with frangipane and maintained its flakiness. The frangipane was rich without being overly sweet or stodgy. Honestly I took a bite of this and felt the heavens open up to me. Jesus Christ himself visited me and angels cried. I’m currently debating the merits of getting a dozen of these instead of a birthday cake for my next birthday.

TL;DR I was visited by angels and tasted mana from heaven.

So welcoming, so friendly, SO delicious. I’ve been on a mission to find the best chocolate chip cookie in my city… and the competition is lucky that Batch is where it is instead of near me! Might have to try to stop by once more before the end of my trip.

I've eaten a LOT of Batch pastries, but today's pesto and ramp croissant/roll was probably the best. Please make more of these! Big fan of the turbans - fruit, cream cheese, and pastry perfection! The filled rolls are also fantastic. Love this place and its proximity to Cafe Domestique! A must-visit bakery in Madison.
