Had one of the best cod dinners I’ve had in a long time tonight! Really nice ambiance - will definitely be keeping this place in our rotation.

Went here for Sunday brunch. Food really great, service excellent, my only real complaint, and it's not really a complaint really, just a preference, is that I wish they would have had an espresso maker. I do love me some lattes or other freshly made coffee drinks on Sunday morning. Otherwise really enjoyed it and the price was totally fair for what you receive.

My daughter, and I tried this restaurant for the first time last night, and unfortunately were disappointed. The first issue we ran into (it could’ve been corrected, had I spoken up - so that’s on me) was that the table we were seated at was in the middle of the path where everyone walked through (servers and patrons going to the bathroom). It was a very narrow space, close to the bar, register station and another table, so it felt cramped, like the people passing by were constantly in our space. At some point, a server was carrying a large tray with glasses from the kitchen and it looked like he was going to bump into our table (he swiftly turned to the side and didn’t).Also, my chair (which seemed cheaper looking and different from all the others) was super wobbly and it felt like it may fall apart.Again - that’s something I could have requested a change for, so this is not a complaint, more of a feedback for management. Honestly, I don’t think that table should be placed there. The second and much bigger issue was the meal my daughter had - the salmon. She is a good eater and rarely complains, but she could not finish it because it was not only overcooked, but one end was completely burned. So she ended up throwing away a good 1/4 of the already small portion. My meal (the cod) was much better, although I would have preferred less butter, especially from a fine dining place, but overall - the taste was good and the fish was cooked well. We also ordered Brussel sprouts on the side, which were good, but over-salted (even for me, who eats a lot of salt) so my suggestion would be to use less salt and let the guests add it if they feel the need for.The worst of it all was the reaction of the server, who asked us how everything was tasting. My daughter serves herself, so she felt self-conscious and did not want to share her disappointment. I, however, thought that a genuine conversation (not so much a complaint) would be welcome for the benefit of the restaurant and the kitchen. So my response was - the cod is delicious, but there is much more to be desired from the salmon. Our server’s answer: “Thanks for sharing”, turned his back and walked away.I would like to give this restaurant another try, as the atmosphere and the news in general seemed good. But with all the other excellent places in town, I don’t think it will be any time soon.

Kettle Black Kitchen's atmosphere is like going to a favorite aunt's French country home. The food is excellent, and since it was an early dinner, the owner came over to greet me. I ordered a vegetable fritter for a light supper, and it was expertly executed with wonderful flavors. The service is kind and thoughtful and I look forward to my next trip there.

Came here for a visit with my mom and had a great experience! Our server sat us right away and gave great wine recommendations. The food was amazing and the space is very intimate

Uncovered a real gem at Kettle Black Kitchen! The atmosphere is so cozy and charming in the sort of way Monroe street is. We were served by the owner and chef who was so kind and you could tell had a real passion for his restaurant. And of course…the food was AMAZING! Best French onion soup I’ve ever had. Mashed potatoes with the chicken were excellent. Would definitely recommend and will be back!

The food was all over the map. Some of the dishes were decent while others were disappointingly bland (I'm looking at you broccoli and brussel sprouts). The coffee was like water but the pie was great! In retrospect, I think Kettle Black just doesn't know how to make good vegetable dishes because my meat-eating compatriots were pleased. Final note: a restaurant of this caliber shouldn't be using plastic takeaway containers.

Made reservations for my husband’s birthday. The quiet cozy place on Monroe Street is a great spot. Ordering a Manhattan & French 75, and a fritter was a perfect start. Kettle Black, with its French inspired decor is a perfect choice for a quiet conversation & scrumptious meal. The entrees of Pork Shank with Brussels sprouts was a luscious plateful. Pan Seared Wild Cod was prepared with a savory selection of mushrooms & potatoes. We ended our memorable evening with a sour orange cake topped with fresh whipped cream & strawberry. Try Kettle Black for your next evening out.

Pork belly, ribeye, salmon and so much more! ? Kettle Black Kitchen on Monroe Street in Madison is a cute place for drinks, appetizers and good entrees. The pork belly was crispy and tender. My favorite! We were actually there to try the fire roasted oysters but they didn't have any and so we'll be back to try them.
