Never had a disappointing experience with anything I've gotten here, and for some time a lot of it was raw sushi grade tuna or salmon that was eaten raw. Everything is in good condition, and the staff are all knowledgeable. When you're in a supermarket, and you can smell the seafood section from around the corner, that's NOT a good sign. You'll never smell anything fishy here because it is all well-maintained and of high quality. Madison, and the main location of the Williamson Street Grocery CoOp are lucky to have this business and these people around. There are certain fish you might want and cannot get because they're ethical about what can still be harvested from the world's waters without damaging species and ecosystems. If you want a live lobster, on the other hand, you'll have to get it from their west side location!

Fresh Fish Mmmmm

Good and fresh sushi grade fish. If you want to buy supplies to make your own sushi, this is the place to buy your shrimp & fish. Just keep in mind that is not the only nor the cheapest.

A fun place to shop for unique foods and healthy alternatives to staple foods. Includes hot food and salad bar take out and baked goods. Also a small dining area to have a cup of coffee and read the paper.

Natural health food / grocery store with three branches. This one has two sitting areas (one inside, one outside). Plenty of local, organic, sustainable, etc food. Hot food bar, salad bar, bakery, juice bar, coffee bar, etc. Plenty of options for vegetarians, vegans, etc.Very friendly staff

I've been a member of the Williamson Street Grocery CoOp since its first original location at the corner of Few and Williamson Streets. Now, in bigger digs, we've got room for a whole seafood section, and the management have opted to let the Seafood Center, whose main store is on the far west side, operate a counter in the CoOp. They've almost always got whatever it is we're after, from the commonplace to the unusual; like fresh salmon, or frozen crayfish. The selection is quite good, and they're always happy to order something for you if they can. Their staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. We're lucky to have them in the store, where they're a great asset for the diverse menu of those of us members who are omnivores. They have not only the great fish, shellfish, crustaceans, and other aquatic species many of us love to eat, they also have other things you need in your kitchen to best prepare and enjoy these things when they arrive on the table. The man today specifically recommended a concentrated lobster base, saying it was great with the risotto Mitchell is making. As it happens, there was and is already a bottle in our refrigerator. Yelp took down this review, apparently someone reported it in the brief time between me checking in and promising a review, and my getting it completely completed. I hope it's fine now.
