There's no place like the Silver Dollar. It was always welcoming. It is one place where many fond memories started.

Not much to say about this bar that has been around for over 90 years except that it is going out of business in early February. A typical dive bar with not much atmosphere though it has a nice art deco style back bar. Never even knew about this place during my years on campus. Beers were beer and prices OK. Just too bad an old classic is going away to just become a parking lot!

It's a dive bar just off the square- if you expect more from a place that's been owned by the same family since prohibition than that, go somewhere else. Service was exceptional, as was the music of my youth! Think they have a pizza oven for frozen pies- friends brought in eats from the place named after a cocktail a couple of blocks away to absorb beverages. Go, have fun, and just be yourself!

A dive bar is a dive bar. Friendly bartender, okay bathrooms, bring your cash as they don’t accept cards of any kind!

My son and I were looking for a place to get a few drinks before the Badger Game. Found this place when the bar we originally went into only had soccer on their TVs. Wanted to watch American football, so we went around the corner to the Silver Dollar. This place fit the bill, but it was definitely the tale of two different bartenders. The first guy wasn't too friendly, and didn't put much effort into my Bloody Mary. Tried to strike up a conversation, but not much interest from that side of the bar. But the Ohio St/Mich game was on TV, so we stayed. Once the new bartender took over, it was a whole new experience. Friendly, fun and made a much better Bloody (plus it think the rounds were cheaper?) . Learned a lot from the second bartender. Turns out this bar is 90 years old and has been run by 4 generations of family. And I hope I'm quoting this right, but the clientele over the years range from "gutter to Governor"! (because it's located right off Capitol Square). Truly a Dive Bar with a good selection of beer and decent prices. I think they sell pizza (frozen type) but no other food besideS maybe snacks. Has 2 average size TVs and a Shuffleboard Table for entertainment. Lots of history in the form of pictures on the wall. Also I loved the friendly and interesting "locals" that were very excepting of the Red and White wearing Badger Fans who wandered in, to "pregame" with a drink or two before kickoff! Pro Tip...This may be the only dive bar left in or around the state capital. Find it if you want a nice tap while the rest of your group goes to the Farmers Market or any of the other downtown events!
