We stopped here late Sunday morning for breakfast to day of the Madison Marathon. Everywhere was crowded, this place was empty. That could be because they're new, or because they're not good. We gave it a shot.
A girl whom looked to be middle school aged was the only person working that we could see. She brought us menus, chips and salsa.
My partner and I both ordered chilliquiles.
We asked for the eggs to be over medium instead of over easy. The server asked us to repeat that because she clearly didn't understand it (I don't believe it was a language issue) and then told us she'd have to check to see if the kitchen could do that. I didn't explain that it meant keeping the eggs on the griddle for thirty seconds longer.
I tried to order one of the protein side dishes listed at the bottom of the menu, but she told me we don't have that.
I pointed it out on the menu.
She looked blankly at me and repeated we don't have that.
I tried to order another one listed in the menu.
Don't have that.
What do you really have that the menu says you have?
She said I'll go ask.
None of the side dishes listed on the menu are actually available for purchase.
When the food arrived it looked more like nachos than any chilliquiles I've ever had, but maybe that's a regional thing, I know that recipe can vary quite a bit. It tasted okay.
The eggs were over easy.
Under the same circumstances (some event has every other place we drive by with a line out the door) we might give this place another shot.
It was very inexpensive, so there's that.

Taco Madre is hands down one of the best Mexican restaurants weâve eaten at in the Madison area. The salsas were very good, the drinks were good, and our food was great! We had a torta with carne asada and the enchiladas rancheras. Super great! Will definitely go back again! Oh! Also our waitress was super nice and the environment was very welcoming!

If you are hoping to order dessert here, I recommend you order it when you order your meal. Our server never checked back after delivering our food. Too bad since their desserts looked delicious. It was midweek 7pm and not very busy, yet every table seemed to be ignored by the server after receiving their entree.

Hidden gem on Atwood. They had the best nopales and delicious mole. Try the molcajete if you can eat a lot.

We welcomed this new place in our neighborhood after Daisy Cafe closed. We have dined in and regularly ordered for pick up. The food quality is decent. However, a change in their website made it impossible to order online. We placed an order and got cancelled. We went to the restaurant to check and were dismissed as it was probably our mistake. Nonetheless, we ordered the food there for takeout. As we were waiting, another customer came in that had place an online order and was also not processed. At that point perhaps the waitress realized there was in fact a problem. She didn't apologize for the inconvenience or try to provide any explanation. She acted as it was not her concern. The restaurant was not even busy (maybe 2 tables were occupied at prime diner time). That was our last order with Taco Madre. While the food is good, it is not exceptional by any means to have to endure one of the worst customer services I experienced at a restaurant in town.

Food has flavor! A number of Mexican restaurants fail this simple category.

I absolutely will not be back here again. I just came to pick up a delivery order and they refused to make the food which affects my delivery account and will cause me to lose my account/job. The lady I talked to was rude and dis not care whatsoever.

Honestly the worst restaurant service I have ever experienced. We walk in and the waitress asks us for a table of how many - no greeting, smile, or friendliness - fine. As we walk to the table, my mother asks if we can sit at a table by the window. The waitress immediately responds âIâm busyâ and shrugs us off. The other table was clear of plates and ready so my parents try to talk to her about why. As we are sort of waiting around for an answer, a white couple walks in and she immediately greets them and tells them they can sit wherever. They take the table that we asked about, at that point my parents are still trying to figure out what happened but a bit irritated by that. I mention race because although the waitress seemed Hispanic it almost felt like a racist response to them. She refused to interact with them or give them her name. My (white) fiancĂ©e is now waiting by the door and the waitress greets her and asks her if sheâs looking for a table or takeout. She responds that sheâs with us. Funny because my fiancĂ©e is the one who initially responded to her letting her know we needed a table for four, just goes to show how little attention she was paying to us. Honestly it was a bummer because it was all a late birthday celebration for her with my parents. I donât know what was going on with the waitress. I donât know if she was already in a bad mood but the fact that my parents and I were the only non white customers there and the treatment we got just felt very bad. As we were leaving a saw a receipt on the bar with the name Irma M. if that was still her then I really hope this doesnât happen to anyone else.

Best Mexican street food I have had in years. The corn tortillas were fresh and delicious, the red chile sauce was amazing! And the music was great. Selena!
