Inventive food with prices a tad bit high. I would go again.

Disappointing birthday brunch. I had to work really hard (I mean REALLY hard) to get through to make a reservation because it was over 8 guests. After leaving 3 voicemails, I finally did have 3 returned calls from separate people over the course of a few days. Birthday cinnamon roll served in a to-go box (fine whatever, it's free) but it wasn't free - I was charged for it. After several more phone calls - my credit cards was credited the cost of the cinnamon roll but I don't know what math was done because it didn't cover the tax and tip that I paid on top of it. Too much work for me to go back anytime soon.

We had a wonderful Easter brunch experience. Can’t wait to go back for more. The place was crowded and busy, but the staff was very attentive and friendly. We were lucky to have a table by the windows overlooking the lake. Our table enjoyed the ‘mimosa sampler’.The plates were plenty full with food. The French toast slices were light and fluffy. It was plenty of whipped cream and fruit to complement the dish. The side of scrambled eggs was prepared perfectly, not overcooked or runny. The hashbrowns, prepared with some red and green peppers, we’re also very tasty. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Perfectly salted; no need to add more salt. What I will order the next time will be the smoked salmon Benedict. It’s a wonderfully balanced dish. The salmon had a nice smokey flavor, not a strong salmon taste at all. The eggs were also poached perfectly, with the runny yolk complementing creaminess of the sauce. Capers add a nice little bite to the whole dish.I had gone to the state house several years ago and did not have a good experience. Today’s brunch experience was certainly a redemption. I can’t wait to go back and try other items on the menu.

If you're seeking a culinary experience that perfectly blends exquisite cuisine with breathtaking views, look no further than The State House in Madison, WI.My recent visit left me utterly delighted and craving for more. From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance exuded elegance and warmth, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. Nestled by the shores of Lake Mendota, the picturesque view of the purple sunset painted a mesmerizing backdrop, enhancing our dining pleasure. Now, let's talk about the star of the show—the food. I opted for the 8 oz beef fillet, while my wife indulged in the beef Wellington. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, meticulously crafted to perfection. The tender, juicy fillet melted in my mouth, while the beef Wellington impressed with its rich, savory goodness.Beyond the delectable fare and scenic surroundings, the service was impeccable. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, adding a personal touch to our dining experience.Overall, The State House exceeded all expectations, delivering an unforgettable evening filled with culinary delights and captivating vistas. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply craving a memorable meal, I wholeheartedly recommend indulging in the culinary delights of The State House.Trust me; you won't be disappointed.

The breakfast is OK, I had a vegetable omelette, and my husband had the huevos rancheros, he said his was not very good. Beautiful view in the daytime overlooking the lake. At night you cannot see the view, so if you want the view, go during the day. NY steak was cooked medium vs medium rare, ceasar salad doesn't have much flavor- I don't recommend. Cheese curds are ok but not melted - a little firmer. The bar is cute but when there are too many people, the staff cannot handle it and you will never get anyone to take your drink order. They really need better service in the bar area.

First time visit. Went for brunch for a birthday. Great views! Food was tasty. Service was not that great…maybe because it was late Sunday morning? Not sure. But the experience left a sour taste, unfortunately.I understand the service industry has been hit hard the last few years so I don’t want to be too negative, but my Wife and I ordered two Wisco bloody Mary’s that came with chasers. Someone other than our waiter brought them out with one chaser. We told the woman we needed one more chaser. Got the chaser…no big deal. We then noticed we were given the Statehouse bloody, not the Wisco bloody. So we let our waiter know. He apologized and went back to the bar to have new ones made. After 15 minutes went by, the waiter came back and told us the bartender told him the bloodies we were given were the Wisco (they clearly were not because the garnishes belonged to the Statehouse bloody, not the Wisco). I did point this out originally but for whatever reason it didn’t translate. But, we just sucked it up and drank what we were given.I think this is what bugged me the most…being told we were given what we ordered but in fact, it was not. I would think the waiter (maybe not) would have known this. There are only three different bloody Mary’s available. Pure speculation…did the waiter even go back and ask the bartender to make the right drinks…?I wouldn’t have posted this otherwise, but again, I’m not sure why this all happened. Again, great views and good food…not great service.

Mia was such a pleasant and attentive bartender. I met her last year during a work trip and she has not failed to show the good hospitality I’ve always felt at other hotels! Will definitely be returning!

We had the weekend brunch on a Saturday. My partner had the statehouse pancakes and I had the avocado toast. Both were excellent. Very pleasant wait staff. We thought it was reasonably priced--in fact we thought that it would be much more expensive given the location. The restaurant is part of Edgewater hotel. Before you get to the restaurant, there's a wall filled with pictures of famous Wisconsinites. Really nice, especially if you are with someone who is visiting the state. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere, with a really great view of beautiful Lake Mendota.

I liked the atmosphere, the food doesn't take more than 10 minutes to get to the table, it's extremely spectacular! I'm Brazilian and I hadn't eaten such a good sandwich here since yesterday hahah

Beautiful view. Good food. Service was not great. They had two waitstaff. Too many patrons for those two people. Brought incorrect bloodies. Then claimed they were correct because I don't think bar wanted to re-make. Would love to dine again because food was good quality and good price, but a poor first experience.

A disappointing experience. The server did everything she could to push out as fast as possible. When you pay $100 a head for dinner, you don't want to feel like you are unwelcome in the dining room. - Once the meat and cheese plate arrived the server pushed for our order. - Salads ordered and delivered within two minutes even as the server said, "Take your time. I won't rush things." - Mains came before salads were cleared. - The desert menu landed while we are having our mains. - The desert order taken while my wife was still eating her stake. - Desert arrived with the bill. - The server came over to check the billfold for payment multiple times. No thank you's, no "have a good night." We were there for one hour forty-five minutes. This is not unreasonable. Tell us if you have a policy regarding time at a table. There are many good options in Madison. I would avoid The Statehouse. Sadly, it's not worth the time and price. This restaurant fails the proud tradition of the Edgewater Hotel.
