I tried El Tlaxcalteca Mexican Restaurant for the first time today after searching for a local Mexican restaurant with authentic food and really good flavor. Omg! It did not disappoint. The restaurant itself is really small, only a few tables, but we were able to get a seat. The complimentary chips and salsa was delicious. The salsa had such good flavor and had diced up roasted jalepenos but it wasn’t spicy. They also provide 2 additional salsas in squeeze containers. An avacado jalepeno crema-like one and a chipotle flavored one. The crema one was amazing. I wanted to bring it home with me. We ordered the Birria pizza and the #3 Birria quesadilla. The Birria quesadilla wasn’t your typical quesadilla … it was better!! The corn tortillas were fried and super crunchy. The pizza was amazing. I was afraid it would be bready or just too rich… but it wasn’t it was perfect. I can’t wait to go back!!

Food is pretty good but sometimes may vary in quality. I really hate when the consommé is watered down. It doesn't look very appetizing and tastes off.

My go-to food at a Mexican restaurant is Chicken Mole. This place gets all the stars, because O. M. G. The chicken was so tender, it literally slid off the bone! That's not to say it was overcooked, because it certainly wasn't. It retained it's juiciness and flavor, which was only enhanced by the brown mole sauce. The sauce here is a bit sweeter than other places I've eaten, which made for a nice change. The side of rice was nothing to speak of, but that is ok; I just used the mole sauce to give it some oomph.This is a small, hole in the wall type of place, discretely tucked in the corner of the building that houses El Rey. Blink and you may miss it. The interior is decorated in vibrant colors and typical Mexican decor, making you feel like you are, indeed, in Mexico. Service is spot on: friendly, helpful, and efficient.Missing Mexico? Stop in...you'll feel like you never left!4/2024

I was very excited to try this place, and it was worth the 1hr drive! It's one of those hidden gem/hole in the wall type of places. The owners and staff had amazing customer service! We had several dishes but by far the Birria Tacos w the semi crunchy tortilla and flavorful tender beef was my favorite! They had Tamarindo and Jamaica drinks available, my fav! And the CHORIQUESO appetizer was excellent! The neighborhood is deff lively and very busy. Located next to a huge grocery store and free huge parking lot. I highly recommend the food here! They also have pick up available.
What I love about this small restaurant is that it is authentic Mexican. Sorry, none of this Americanized Tex-Mex garbage. As soon as you sit down, you will receive free chips and salsa. Their salsa is a delicious chunky blend, with enough heat to satisfy, but not too much that it hurts. The authentic tacos come with the meat of your choice, onions and cilantro. They have this mild spicy green avocado based sauce that's perfect for tacos.
