Awesome seating outside where the building protects you from the wind. Great bourbon selection, the drinks are awesome. The wait staff are friendly and funny. “We live 2.5 hours south of Lake Villa, but we were meeting some friends from Florida for dinner. They were in the area for their grandson’s graduation from Great Lakes Naval Academy. Found this place via Google and it had great reviews, with good reason. We wish we lived closer because it would be a favorite for sure. Probably the best bruschetta and lasagna I’ve had in a very long time. Everyone loved their entrees. We tried multiple pasta dishes and the pizza. Prices were very reasonable and our service was exceptional. Excellent dining experience all around. Highly recommend.“

“We love Ace’s!! Jess and Nina are so awesome! You know you’re “home” when you walk in and they already know your drink and food orders by heart. They always go above and beyond for all their customers when we are there. Both very genuine and authentic. Food is always amazing and you can’t beat their specials! Another reason we keep coming back! Food, service, clean, great ambiance and always friendly patrons which ends up being great group conversations with the employees. “Stopped here on a Saturday night on our way through to Illinois. It was very busy. They had St Patrick’s Day specials as well as their normal menu and regular Saturday specials. Everyone was nice and things appeared to run smoothly in a crazy busy atmosphere. Food came out promptly and was very good! “We had a great meal at the Red Oak. Expansive wine list with many good choices, along with specialty cocktails. Excellent entrees, with many choices that would work for vegetarians, gluten-sensitive and those needing kosher food. Desserts will beautifully presented and clearly made in house. The breadsticks on the table were especially good! The restaurant has a homey atmosphere with high ceilings and a fireplace. Artwork from local artists decorates the walls and is available to purchase. There is a lengthy explanation on the menu about their tipping process (20% added automatically, with tips pooled and divided equally amongst servers). The menu also lists their farm partners, which was much appreciated. Our waitress was new and a bit challenged, but she did her best. Only major issue was an error on our bill (forgot to charge for both desserts) which sent her back to us after the bill had been paid to collect additional money. We had a nice chat with the general manager as we left. She was very personable and shared more about the restaurant and their philosophy. We will definitely return if we have the opportunity, since we do not live in the area.“
