My wife and I finally got around to trying out the Oxley House for our anniversary dinner. I'll sum it up as decent food for a premium price.
We each had an entree and one beer, and we split a salad, and the total bill with tip came to $127. At that price I expect spectacular. It wasn't bad, but definitely not spectacular.
We split the salad with the strawberries and walnuts, which was quite good, although I did notice one yucky looking strawberry slice.
My wife had the crabcakes - too much bread in them, although they were not bad.
I had the ribeye. It was a very good quality steak, not the tough grocery store meat you get at a lot of restaurants. The interior was a perfect medium rare, but there was no sear on the outside. It was barely browned with a couple of anemic looking grill marks. Kudos for using good meat and not overcooking it, but given the same piece of meat, I believe I could have done better on my grill at home.
The loaded baked potatoes were good. The roasted vegetables were forgettable; not bad, but a bit rubbery and not much flavor.
Our server was excellent. However the kitchen service was very slow, even though the restaurant was nearly empty. Also, they need to do some work on the acoustics of the dining room. It was extremely loud even though there were very few people in it.
Bottom line, they either need to up their game or cut their entree prices by $8-$10 and include a salad.

Our first time here. We really enjoyed the atmosphere. The staff was nice. The food was great and the wait wasn’t too long to get our food.

What a nice spot for a cocktail! We stopped on Saturday while passing through the area and had a few drinks. Each cocktail was very well put together, and they were able to accommodate alterations when we asked. The bartenders were fantastic. They were very friendly and knew their jobs well. It was really a pleasure to spend time here

My husband and I dropped our grandkids off at Camp Leon Catholic Church camp on Fathers Day Sunday and we decided to spend the night in nearby Elkins, WV. So we googled high end boutique hotels and found our way to the Tygart Hotel. This little gem is actually way bigger than you can imagine. A completely renovated 100 plus year old hotel looks like a 21C hotel. We arrived later in the evening where we met the bartender/manager Zach, by accident just exploring ... he was cleaning up after the holiday brunch . He went above and beyond to show us the incredible renovations and to share the journey through original artwork on each floor depicting the history of the area and state. He and the front desk agent Brooklyn graciously let us have a drink in the cozy bar area. This place is something special and if you're traveling through the area you will regret not checking it out whether staying the night, or having dinner in the restaurant, or even just walking in to see how to do a first class boutique hotel renovation from the ground up.

My husband and I were visiting family in the area, and decided to try Oxley Place for dinner at 6 pm on a recent Saturday evening.
The restaurant is stylish and comfortable - a nice vibe. Granted it was early, but it was not busy. The waitress took our drinks order. I ordered a glass of white wine; the pour was not generous to say the least. I am familiar with the wine chenin/viognier. The glass I was served did not taste as usual. I returned it and ordered a glass of red (which was fine) to accompany the strip steak as a main course. In the meantime, we ate the broccoli /brussell sprouts appetizer which was delicious!
When the strip steak was served it was so rare as to be inedible (I had ordered medium). My husband had ordered a ribeye - he had requested rare - which was served medium. I can only guess that the kitchen mixed up the order. The waitress asserted that she had submitted the order as requested. I assured her that it was not her fault, and we left a generous tip.
Rather than have the strip steak recooked or replaced, I ordered a burger, and called it a night. My husband's meal, despite the steak being a bit overcooked to his taste, was very good.
Overall, the evening was disappointing. This is a restaurant with a lot of potential. But, i think a bit more wait-staff training is required to handle complaints, and, also, to answer questions about the wine list. A wait-person may not drink, but, should still be able to field queries about the wines on offer. The kitchen needs to pay more attention to order details. I should add we are seniors who have eaten in restaurants all over the U.S. Thank you.

Zach and his counterparts are extremely professional and personable. The food is fantastic and Zach has the best suggestions. If I could rate higher than 5 stars I would.

We had a very nice dining experience at Oxley House as well as a nice stay at the Tygart Hotel. Service in both the bar and the restaurant were excellent, our drinks and our food were expertly prepared and we had a very pleasant visit.

Finally tried this place for my birthday and a comedy night. It was busier than normal so I can't complain with the service. Ordered the meat lovers flat bread and a charcuterie board for appetizers. When they brought out the charcuterie board I was informed they were out of cheese so the substituted another meat. I'm not a snob but I should have been asked because I definitely wouldn't have wanted a 24 dollar appetizer without one of the requirements for it to be what it's described as. For the main course my daughter got salmon and my friend got the house steak filet while I got the lamb shank. Their dishes were excellent, mine was cooked well just needed a little more flavor. Since the charcuterie board was messed up they gave me a free dessert. I ordered the cinnamon roll and my daughter had the chocolate tort. My cinnamon roll could have doubled for a cinderblock. It was literally so hard even the ice cream that came with it wouldn't soften it up. The chocolate tort was decent. While I didn't ask for anything off the $165 dollar bill I did explain my frustration. The quality of the meats was excellent I will say that but with all the mistakes and poor quality control I highly doubt I will ever try this place again

43rd birthday dinner…… We wanted something different and new. So we went to the Oxley house. It has a great small restaurant atmosphere. The food and cocktail choices were fantastic. We had the filet and chicken with gnocchi. Both were perfectly prepared and tasted amazing. The staff was awesome as well. Very friendly and timely. Huge thanks to Marcus for getting us in and our waitress Amanda for taking care of us. Thanks for making my birthday special. Can’t wait to go back again.😊

Elkins West Virginia is a neat town. A college, theater with live entertainment, tourist trains, restaurants etc. The Tygart Hotel has a wonderful restaurant called the Oxley House. The building and interior are fashionably vintage style decor. I had to use a vacation day to check this restaurant out. The food was amazing. There is no dress code. Parking: street parking and there is a gravel lot across the street. Reservations are recommended but not necessary. We had two appetizers: Appalachia Rolls and the Flatbread. Very very nice. My entrée was the Salmon with carrots and wild rice. My girlfriend had the Prime Steak. Both dishes looked amazing and tasted great. My girlfriend had a sorbet for dessert. My dessert was a apple pie. We both had a enjoyable experience there. The bar is right outside the entrance to the restaurant. Once the bar filled up. It did get quite noisy to the point you couldn't hear the modern jazz style music.

Called to make reservations at 7:30 on Friday night for Saturday lunch. I was told the only open spots were 9:30 am or 6 pm. Not exactly lunch hours. Luckily my daughter thought to try to make reservations online for 1:00. When we arrive it was just us and two other people in the whole place the whole time....not exactly booked. Ordered Bloody Mary's and after a long wait we were informed they did not have the ingredients. Seriously? Not prepared for the Small Business Saturday? My trout was good, however the only veggie option was squash and I'm not a fan but had no other choice. We waited quite a long time for our meal to be served and were the only ones there as the two other people had left. Ladies room trash can was overflowing.

Burger I got on my first visit was one of the best I've had. Thanksgiving buffet I had on my second was also very good and quite reasonably priced per person.

Delicious meals in a lovely setting! Every dish from appetizers to a perfectly balanced best ever cinnamon roll has been stellar! We love how they have incorporated some local farm fresh ingredients from Charm Farm too! We have preferred the food over the cocktails, but have walked away from each meal content and excited for our next visit. This evening we dined with our small children and nephews and everyone had a nice experience - the kids enjoyed their items off the kids menu as well. So grateful Elkins has the Oxley House in the heart of downtown!
