They were said to make the Al Burger made famous by Big Al and I was excited not to have to drive to Smithers. Big mistake, usually they have ham, salami, bologna, sauce etc, this miserable excuse for a sandwich had 2 pieces of meat, looked like fried bologna, barely any sauce, and no taste. Big Al is turning in his grave. The ones I make at home are better with hot sauce and BBQ sauce.

The downtowner has some darn good food. If your just passing through or lived here your whole life, you gotta try this restaurant. Now, the owner and his wife both work serving the customers and making the food, which is pretty cool. The man talks alot, so if you do stop here you'll be having plenty of good conversations. The lighting is nice, there's big curtains blocking the windows, so it gives a nice private feel. They close early so it's a breakfast, brunch, lunch kind of place. The bathroom is quite small and only fits 1 person at a time. It doesn't get alot of business, so when you stop in, be sure to leave a nice tip. They're kind folk, and serve some good hot food. Definitely try the hot dog an fries!Parking: You gotta find a spot, an may have to walk half a block or so, but it's worth it!

The server we had was very rude and went to the back to talk crap about me, but wasn't conscious about how big mouth she is and I heard everything she had to say so service sucks as far as the food we got a butter that was opened, and butter was gone out of it And our eggs were overcooked the ambience was filthy, dirty I most definitely would never never never recommend this place to anyone. This was my first visit and my last.

Two visits during hours it is listed as being open, both times it was closed. Neither attempt to go here was during a holiday or special event.

High hopes, mediocre results. Everything was going great until the first bite of bacon. It was old, it had probably been in the fridge too long. Owner was nice enough and wife in back made excellent looking and tasting food, except bacon. I informed the owner and he said the another table didn't eat theirs either. He blamed the supplier but there is no way a supplier delivered that. Potatoes were very good as was biscuit and gravy.

I've stopped there many times throughout the years whenever I'm in the Ripley area. The Downtowner is currently owned by someone who grew up in the Smithers area, just like myself. The restaurant really has a down-home feel. Very comfortable and peaceful. It's kind of like a piece of Mayberry. Ample parking in front makes it convenient to get to. The food is delicious and not too pricey. Definitely worth a stop!

The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making for a great start to my day. But what truly stood out was the delicious breakfast. Breakfast was cooked to perfection, I ordered eggs over hard and got exactly what I wanted, and the presentation was top-notch. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a fantastic breakfast experience with a great ambiance. A must-visit!
