“As the author of the Jackson Hole Hiking Guide and 50 Jackson Hole Photography Hotspots, I've spent decades exploring and photographing Jackson Hole. The Playhouse is one of those downtown locations with an enormous amount of visual character, from the historic building and Old West interior to the costumes, signs, and saloon atmosphere.

The Jackson Hole Playhouse is one of those places that feels like it belongs in Jackson. I've seen quite a few productions here over the years, and it's always a fun night out.

The theater has a wonderful old-school feel. From the moment you walk inside, the building, costumes, saloon-style setting, and performers make the experience feel like you've stepped back into the Old West. The actors are often out interacting with guests in costume, and they'll pose for photos, which adds a lot to the experience before you even get to the show.

You can come just for the performance or make a bigger evening out of it with the dinner option. There's food, popcorn, drinks, and an old-time saloon atmosphere that fits perfectly with the theater. I've always enjoyed how much of the experience happens beyond simply sitting down and watching a play.

The productions themselves are consistently fun, and the performers and staff I've encountered over the years have always been fantastic. This isn't a giant modern theater where you disappear into the crowd. It's intimate, quirky, and loaded with Jackson character.

As the author of The Grant Colson Thriller Series novels and a romance novelist, I travel extensively researching real locations and paying attention to places with enough personality to become part of a story. The Jackson Hole Playhouse absolutely qualifies.

This has been a Jackson institution for generations, and it remains one of the most entertaining ways to spend an evening downtown. Dinner, a show, costumed actors, an old-time saloon atmosphere, and a building that feels like it came out of another century.

“We dined at Local on 01/09/2026 and it was amazing. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, answering our questions and making recommendations. We ordered the Caesar salad, the 18oz bison steak to split, mashed potatoes and a chocolate torte. Everything was delicious and we would definitely recommend.“

“So good! We came here with our four younger kids after hiking all day in the Tetons. It is our last day in town so I’m thankful for a fun experience that made our last big dinner on vacation memorable. Sebastian was an amazing server, kind, and kept our waters filled because we were so thirsty and the local cuisine was outstanding. My 8 year old son literally said it was the burger of his dreams (off the kids menu). Rainbow trout, amazing. Bison brisket, divine. Even down to the micro greens they used for flavor (perfect pairing) and kimchi for added spice that was not overpowering. Atmosphere was wonderful and customer service was outstanding, honoring a coupon that we ended up not really qualifying for. So it really meant a lot to us with having four kids and a pricy menu! “I have enjoyed dining at the Whistling Grizzly before and it’s amazing! We were greeted by Kimi, who was very attentive. Jean Paul was our server and he was outstanding!!!! Tilly was also serving and was very kind during our brief interactions. Now on to the food, I couldn’t believe the size of this jumbo shrimp and the sauce was divine! Lastly, order the 32 oz bison tomahawk if it’s available as an off menu item! If you are brave, chew off the bone as there are a few tasty bits you just can’t miss. 10/10 would recommend whether it’s a romantic dinner, a family outing, or a business meal.“

“Had dinner there last nite. Sat outside as it was a busy nite but weather was nice enough with the heat lanterns. I had the Flank steak with potatoes added the mushrooms. Really good stuff. Carla was a great server. Staff on top of everything. There was 7 of us. We all split deserts. Apple jack creme brulee was interesting. I guess they change it up every week. We also shared the brownie and another peanut butter cup (big and rich). Newphew had flank steak and risotto, big portion. Dad had the burger and fries. We all split apps. Waffle fries with blue cheese sauce(Sooo Good, even if you don’t blue cheese, you will like this). Mussels were great with the sauce. We had a roasted shoshito peppers, eh, fine but not my first choice. Overall, was super nice.“

“The atmosphere is excellent for watching sports, and I found the service to be above average. The food was typical for a bar, and I particularly enjoyed the wings and the chicken Caesar wrap, which was both large and delicious.

However, I noticed that the oil in the fryers needs to be replaced. The tater tots were quite greasy and their color suggested the oil was past its prime.“

“We had a wonderful time at the white buffalo club. We stayed in a miller park room and it was very clean with everything we would possibly need in the room. Heather and Savannah at the front desk were helpful and pleasant and the housekeeping crew always greeted us with a smile. The location was perfect for lots of restaurants in the square- all walking distance but we did also enjoy having parking at the hotel. In the morning it was very nice to grab a muffin or bagel before we headed to Grand Teton. It was a wonderful trip!“

Figured they’d comp one of our drinks or offer dessert but nope. Server was training which may have played a role in our experience. Overall, decent but not spectacular.“

“Thai Plate is a decent option for Thai food in Jackson. Since Jackson is a tourist town, I expected the prices to be a little higher, and this place is definitely on the higher end for what you get. The food was decent and flavorful, but nothing really stood out as exceptional. Service was friendly enough, although it wasn’t particularly fast plus 20% gratuity added for the group. Overall, a decent place if you’re craving Thai food while in Jackson, but expect tourist-town pricing and allow some extra time for your meal.“
