Las Cuatro Milpas 1857 Logan Ave, San Diego Mexican • $

“I've been coming to Las Cuatro Milpas since I was 6 years old. It's basically a tradition for my family to visit this place on special occasions or on spontaneous lunch get-togethers. The homestyle restaurant is something that has always captivated me. It reminds me of the humble homes found in Morelia, Michoacán and other parts of Mexico. There's nothing better than visiting this place and eating homemade beans with chorizo. The food is definitely on the greasy side since a lot of the menu items are deep fried or cook with pork lard. The flour tortillas are homemade, you can buy a pack of 12 by the cashier area for you to take home. Overall, saying that this place is traditional food is an understatement. It's delicious! Street parking is available and can sometimes be a struggle during peak hours. Most of the time you will have to wait in line so be patient. The down side is that they close early in the evening everyday. Also, fun fact, Las Cuatro Milpas is the oldest Mexican restaurant in San Diego!”

Finjan Coffee Shop Co. 9119 Clairemont Mesa Blvd g, San Diego Coffee Shops • $

“Finjan Coffee Shop might be the best coffee shop I've ever been to based on the cleanliness and decor of the coffee shop, the quality of the drip coffee, the overall menu offerings, and the friendly staff.I came to Finjan about five times over two visits to San Diego in March and April, 2024. I stayed at the nearby Courtyard San Diego Central (which just completed a full renovation) so this coffee shop was nearby. Finjan is a Turkish coffee shop so some of the menu offerings are specific, which is great! The drip coffee is on par with the best drip coffee I've ever had. My coworker ordered a pistachio latte that she said was exceptional. It tasted great and looked good with a simple garnish. I also tried the Turkish coffee which was also very good. I don't like Turkish coffee as much as drip or espresso, but it was one of the best Turkish coffees I've ever had and the presentation is unmatched by any other coffee shop I've been to. Finally, homemade baklawa and knafeh are offered and will not disappoint. The location of Finjan is great if you are in Kearny Mesa, Convoy District, or driving along HWY 163 Cabrillo Freeway. The MTS 25, 235, and 928 busses have stops walking distance on Clairmont Mesa Blvd. The Spectrum Center office complex is to the south and the MCAS base is to the north. Finjan is in a great spot for a to go order or to dine in.”

“The food at Nine-Ten is amazing. We had their sashimi to start and it was full of flavor and a lovely touch of acidity. We had the duck as an entree, which came with a pretty decent amount of meat, and asparagus and mushrooms on the side. I'm definitely not doing it justice in the description but it was delicious and filling. Not my favorite duck I've ever had but still tasted great. My favorite part was their half baked chocolate cake. It was the perfect cherry on top of a great meal.”

Il Posto 2145 Fern St, San Diego Italian • $$

“Visited this spot first night in San Diego, my girlfriend and I were seated right away on a Monday night. The ambience gives a modern vibe with chill and slow r&b/classy music. Our server checked in with us multiple times while another server made sure our cups were never empty or close to empty. Customer service A+. When I read the other reviews I expected the food to live up to the hype of the reviews people left, and the food did not disappoint one bit. Authentic Italian food is the perfect way to describe the food. The diavola pizza was spicy, cheese and tomato sauce was cooked perfect, crust and border was light and crisp, salame was tasteful, 10/10. For the calamari and shrimp, they were fried lightly and rated fresh. I would say the marinara different from most places, I don't really know how to describe it but I would prefer other marinaras at other Italian restaurants. For the penne cremosa, I enjoyed the penne pasta itself as it was not too flimsy or soft, instead the penne noodles were a little more rough. The white cream sauce was not over cooked, not too creamy, just right. However, there is a lot of mushroom in the dish so if you are not big on mushroom it will be a bit overwhelming lol. Not pictured which my girlfriend ordered was the tagliatelle with arrabbiata sauce. I'm not a big red sauce guy, but tasting her pasta I would order that myself. It had a little kick of spice in it and the flavor and seasoning in the sauce was just so appetizing. I would 100% come back to this restaurant and I 100% recommend this restaurant to any new comers and visitors like myself. They definitely deserve 5 stars for not only their authentic food but exceptional customer service.”

However, what we were most impressed with was our server Olivia. She knew the menu items very well - could answer any and all questions that we had. She expressed herself very positively. Rather than ask “are you still working on that?”; she asked “are you still enjoying your meal?” Rather than reply to a thank you with “no problem” or “no worries”; Olivia replied with “my pleasure.” When we go back; we’ll make a point of asking for Olivia!!!”

Kinme Omakase 2505 Fifth Ave, San Diego Japanese • $$$$

“I spent my 21st birthday here and I couldn't be happier with my experience! The amount of care and time it took the chefs to prepare our food in front of us was a work of art. My boyfriend and I love Azuki and it's our favorite sushi place in San Diego, so he was so sweet to book a reservation here to surprise me on my birthday. If you didn't know, Kinme is an extension of Azuki and it specializes in Omakase. If you're a fan of Azuki, or if you just love sushi in general, you need to try this place!! We had so much fun and experienced new fish that we have never tried and we were so so full afterwards. My favorites were the wagyu tartar puff pastry and the braised wagyu. The scallop with uni on top also blew me away. The nigiri was outstanding. Every bite had me closing my eyes and I really just didn't want the sushi to stop coming. The service was amazing and everyone was so attentive. I ordered a hot tea and immediately after I finished my pot I was asked if I wanted more hot water. The chefs were very friendly and asked us repeatedly if we enjoyed the previous dish (which we always nodded excitedly). Right when you come in the ambiance is very relaxing and there's more than enough space between you and the people next to you. At the end, they gave us a physical menu of all the dishes they served us, which I thought was a very thoughtful touch and a cute souvenir to remember my 21st birthday dinner. (pictures and menu was from 2/28, which is a towards the end of their winter menu. Their spring menu might be a little different!)”

She was utterly delightful! She answered all our questions about dishes and was spot on with her descriptions. The carrot cake she recommended was truly delicious!! She was attentive and detail-oriented in the best way. They brought us hand-written birthday cards and a three very large and yummy macarons with candles on the house! The food was absolutely fantastic. Especially the hash browns, mac n cheese, and the lamb. The espresso martini is the best I've ever had, it didn't taste like alcohol which was perfect :PThe design inside and on the rooftop is immaculate, really a beautifully designed space. We were there for three hours, didn't feel rushed, and truly got to soak in the evening European-style with multiple courses and a beautiful sunset. Will definitely be back for a special occasion :)”

“My better half and I came here for a dinner date, and we had a very nice time. Oyster was fresh and large, and the yakitories were quite tasty, too. They had good selection of sakes of which we tried one and enjoyed. The only reason for the 4 stars was for a rather limited yakitory selections. I wish they had more seafood options such as shrimp or clams. Otherwise, my better half and I pigged out ($$$$, lol) and left satisfied. Reservation is pretty much required.”

“I give this place ~3.9/5 stars. It’s not bad at all, but it’s also not nearly the best taco shop I’ve been to in Southern California. I tried the California burrito and a carnitas taco. The burrito was better than the taco—the carnitas was kind of odd, more like little bits of pork belly, and had a strange aftertaste. The burrito was filled up with carne asada, though I wish it had had more cheese. The interior is kind of dump-y, but it’s also in the hood kinda, so it’s what you’d expect. No one would really come hear expecting glamor and glitz. The staff are cool and easygoing.I’ll need to try a couple other things to make a final decision about it.”

Many staff members like Jordan & Louie have been here a long time & it shows. Everyone takes great care of the customers. Every menu item I have had tastes great. So far, my favorites are: beef & barley soup, veggie omelette, salmon salad, French toast, beyond burger & meatloaf. I thoroughly enjoy the 1970’s music, which is what I grew up with. I look forward to many years here & I will bring friends!”

With three vegan flavors available (I am vegan-and their options were fantastic), and the rest all delicately balanced with exquisite flavor (as per my wife/son's recommendations). They give you a flavor taste test of all the flavors and it is very difficult to pick from all of the unique flavors. The biggest draw for me was the repressing of the previous store's brand/look/SIGNAGE as a dry cleaners and repressing it to be an Ice creamery. Brilliant idea, and it definitely works. “We all had such a wonderful time! The opera was sensational, and the whole environment felt like two great friends who are so talented invited us over and cooked us a great meal. Me being vegetarian, I was accommodated with a nice lovely fresh salad.Opera, approachable, and friendly and very different than going to a big theater stuck with lots of stuff people. This was really friendly and approachable and down to her. I loved it.I love the place because it’s small and like someone’s home to some degree, and the outdoor patio was covered in on the corner. I didn’t sit on the patio, but I would love to go back and have one of their fabulous pastries, and a cup of coffee soon.I’d say be on the lookout for another opera event because there aren’t many spaces and I’m sure they go fast. It was well worth it and it wasn’t anywhere near the cost of opera tickets in a big theater or music venue. Our two hosts, the Devo and the diva are such genuine, loving people. They were so welcoming and so friendly and kind and we felt like we knew them forever. There is parking a couple of alleys down in the garage. That was a really great feature too.Only suggestion would be that for those who wish to use their cell phones, that they go stand in the back and do that without obstructing the view of others. It was so distracting that people these days cannot just be in the moment and enjoy an event. How can you really , breathe in and feel the force of the opera while you’re recording it on your phone with your hand up in the air blocking the view of everyone else? So my suggestion would be that you disallow this practice and unless people are willing to go stand in the back out of everyone else’s way. Thanks so much, and I’m sure we will see more of our beautiful hosts soon!Vegetarian options: A meal was offered, and this was an event-not that we just walked in. I’m sure the owners will be more than willing to make adjustments for anyone who, like me, doesn’t eat meat.”

“The Prestige - Magic Lounge & Showroom, San Diego is a magical experience that i would say everyone should experience in there lives. It is so amazing. I give it 5 Star Plus. You can swing by and get a handcrafted drink and watch some of the best magicians in the world entertain you, on the world famous closeup stage, or you can reserve at spot for the dinner show, which i say is the best. its a whole experience, you get a multi course meal, which is the best. The Chef at Presige is World Renown. He is amazing, and artist with food. The food and the plating is top notch. Im a mac and cheese guy and its the best mac and cheese i have ever had. Also the prime rib is so delicious and mouth watering too. They have so many options for food choices, you can even add more food options if you want more courses of food. the magic in the dinner show is spell binding for sure. the magicians that you see on fool us and on agt and on tv shows, many of them are the magicians on the stage during the theater dining show. the theatre is so intimate and so comfortable. every seat is a good seat. also the decor is so beautiful too. if you go bring your camera, because you are going to take many pictures, trust me. they have many banners of famous magicians from the past. they do an amzing job honoring the giants in magic, and also at the bar area, tv playing with footage of magic greats too . its like disneyland, the staff, bar tenders, servers, back of house, all the house magicians, do a top notch job, they work so hard to provide the best service. Every time i come there, they always exceed my expectations. I love this place so much and this you will love it too. go check it out”

We had the duck as an entree, which came with a pretty decent amount of meat, and asparagus and mushrooms on the side. I'm definitely not doing it justice in the description but it was delicious and filling. Not my favorite duck I've ever had but still tasted great.

Oh yeah, don't sleep on the perfectly grilled fish tacos! Also I was super happy that I had enough burrito leftover for dinner.”

Osteria Cotto e Mangiato 702 Ash St, San Diego Italian • $$

“The menu isnt extensive but has classic pasta and starter dishes. We started with the classica bruscetta and buschetta prosciutto & fichi, and the classica bruschetta was my favorite. The freshness of the tomatoes and flavor of the pesto was impeccable. We tried the cheese wheel pasta that comes with special pasta of the day (gnocchi with mushrooms and truffle) tossed in a cheese wheel and served in a pan. It was on the heavier, creamier and cheesier side and i would recommend it for those who are looking for a ooey gooey dish of pasta. Our server recommended the stuffed lobster and shrimp tortelli pasta. The sauce is creamy (but not as creamy as the cheese wheel pasta) and is made with tomatoes. The dish is topped with a big ball of burrata. We tried the espresso martini and cosmopolitan. The espresso martini had more of a strong coffee than bold liquor flavor, but the cosmopolitan was a little sweet and boozy. Overall, it was a solid meal and be prepared for a food coma afterwards. The interior is beautiful with wine bottles, paintings and pictures hanging on the wall. Street parking is the way to go. Our server was friendly, and the portions are generous for its price point.”

Well, we took the chance and I’m thrilled we did. The owner is the chef and he was extremely welcoming and his sushi was, no kidding, among the best I’ve ever had. I had the Godzilla sushi bowl and the combination of seafood, rice, sauce, avocados were perfect. I could hear everyday. And, I’ve had sushi all over the country and throughout the world.

“I have never eaten Ethiopian food before and it was suggested to me by a parking attendant at the San Diego airport. I must say it was pretty good I got the combination plate which came with regular beef, spicy beef and spicy chicken with salad and bread (I forgot the name of what it’s actually called). This hospitality was amazing and welcoming. I certainly enjoyed the food and it was really different for me. The spicy beef didn’t have enough beef which is why it got a 4 star rating because it was just 1-2 pcs and the rest was gravy. The regular beef had plenty so that was awesome and it was only 1 pc of chicken and didn’t seem to have much flavor. The salad was perfect and I noticed because of all the gravy the bread got soggy quickly. I would certainly suggest giving it a try. Check out my Instagram for more food reviews in different areas. Oakberry Acai 959 Garnet Ave, San Diego Acai Bowls

“Good acai! I think my favorite part about this is that they serve it in a cup, not a bowl. It's so much easier to eat on the go! I made my own 16oz with acai, granola, coconut, bananas, blueberries, strawberries, honey, and peanut butter. My boyfriend got the crunchy bowl. Next time we both decided my move was the best! I would get double granola and no honey next time (honey had an odd super fake sweet flavor to me). The acai itself was very good and the fruit was fresh. Quite difficult to park over there so definitely grab a spot even if you're a few blocks away. There was only one person working so it was a bit of a wait for the acai to be fully prepped - about 10 mins or so but the indoor space is super clean and trendy so not bad to wait. If I'm going to pay $27 for two bowls, I still love my juice wave acai in mission but I would pop back in here if I was in the area and craving acai.”

Order some extra pita bread because the servings are generous. You'll likely have leftovers. Note: If you are picking up, it's an industrial area with a spartan "lobby". Their poster is on the lobby wall. Use the QR code on it to grab their phone number. Call and tell them you are in the lobby to pick-up. Nice guy, appreciates your business. He does catering too. This is a great way to support a small business. Check it out.”

Smashburger 4577 La Jolla Village Dr Suite 1233, San Diego Hamburger • $

“Their smash fries are amazing! Loved the shoestring fries and the seasoning is freakin delicious! Loved that it's crispy yet soft in the inside. Something I know I will be ordering again. Their double avocado burger was juicy and bun was soft. Service was quick and inside has plenty of seating. You can help yourself to the condiments and utensils by the fountain drink machines too.”

Jimmy John's 605 C St Suite A, San Diego Sandwich Shop

“Jimmy John's is a great sandwich shop in the Midwest. It started in Illinois. Since I have lived in San Diego, this is the first shop that has opened. Usually, you would have to drive atleast two hours away. The sandwiches are the same here as any Jimmy John's I have been to in the Midwest. The sandwiches are great! The fresh bread and great ingredients make for a very satisfying sandwich. My favorite: #4 Turkey with cheese and extra mayo Try them with the Jimmy peppers!”

“today was my first time through the drive through and they accidentally gave me wrong order, but completely made up for it and when i brought the problem up the general manager michael was super professional & kind and wanted to make sure i left a happy customer. Accidents happen and the way they handled it alone assures i will be a returning customer. It's refreshing seeing good customer service”
