Find the staff at the deli to be non forthcoming / more interested in calling out amongst themselves than greeting the customer. Another staff butt ahead of us at the counter and loudly talking instead of making way for the customer and the staff behind the counter did not do any better by acting like we were not there / not greeting us instead entertaining the rude coworker

Staff at the bakery department had a nicer manner. Some seats outside but would be nicer with an umbrella.

Sunterra Market is a beautiful store with a unique selection of grocery items you don’t often find elsewhere in the city. Their desserts are consistently great (the banana bread is top-tier), and I love browsing for fun or specialty items you can’t get at regular chains.

That said, I do find the staffing to be hit or miss. A lot of employees don’t seem well-trained in food prep or safety, especially in the deli and prepared food areas. I’ve asked simple questions about ingredients or freshness and often get blank stares or vague guesses, which doesn’t exactly build confidence. Some of the premade roasted veggies, potatoes, and meats look like they’ve been sitting a bit too long—I honestly wonder how long they’re kept out before being rotated or tossed.

The store is generally tidy but could use a deep clean. It also feels too small for how much product they try to pack in. A renovation or layout rethink would go a long way. I still shop here occasionally because I love the concept and some of their offerings, but I’d love to see better transparency around food prep and fresher standards. Proper staff training would make a huge difference.

TRULY local grocery store with great customer service. Much of their produce and meats are grown in Alberta on their own farms/greenhouses plus are excellent quality so there is little to no waste and I know that the food was grown to Canadian health standards. I got a fresh turkey for Easter and everyone was raving about how moist and flavourful it was and asked me for my recipe (it was the quality of the turkey, not the recipe). Yes, it cost more, but it was worth every penny. Their delivery charge is less than others and I love that they call me about substitutions or questions so I can discuss the details (I provide my phone number in the order comments), which is something the big stores won't do. Since I've been shopping regularly at Sunterra, my grocery bill has been shrinking because I'm enjoying cooking more with great ingredients and I order real food. Because they also sell higher quality meats and produce and in-house chef/baker prepared food, they carry very little processed or junk food so I'm eating more fresh, healthy food.

I love Sunterra Market. It's a great selection of ready made meals, the best orange juice in the City and green onion cakes that are the closest thing to the Mongolian Food Experience from yesteryear...

Great staff. The butchers are particularly helpful and friendly. I found that the reasonably priced, pork collar steak is hands-down tastier than chops. I don't buy pork anywhere else. Once you taste Sunterra Farm pork, you'll never go back to supermarket stuff.

Excellent place 👌

Walked in today to buy fresh produce. No labels of origin (BC, Canada. USA etc) was indicated for any of the unpackaged produce. I left empty handed. Otherwise, seemed like a lovely place.

Lots of good food! Bakery, Meat counter, sauces, etc. Hope they can stay afloat.

I am really disappointed in the recent changes at Sunterra. I don’t know if it is because of the legal troubles or receivership you are in, but you have gotten rid of many Canadian products. There appears to be even more American products on your shelves at a time when Albertans are looking for Canadian made products. You have increased prices because of bringing in US r products & brought it more esoteric products. I have always loved supporting Sunterra for being an Alberta owned business but I am very disheartened by the changes you have made. The staff, as always, is great but the experience is not.

What happened to their sandwiches? Used to be the best things ever until they decided to change the bread? It’s so thick and dry now.

It is always a pleasure to patronize this market.
