“5 stars “Water so good it should be illegal!” Okay, I know this sounds dramatic—but the water at The Asylum is next-level. I don’t know what kind of filtration sorcery they’re using, but it’s crisp, cold, and honestly the best water I’ve ever had in my life. Like, if you told me it was bottled straight from a glacier blessed by monks, I’d believe you. But let’s talk about the real star here: Ciarra. She served the water like it was a fine wine. Perfect pour, perfect temperature, and she somehow made me feel like drinking water was a five-star experience. Friendly, attentive, and had the kind of vibe that makes you feel like you’ve been friends for years. I came for a drink, stayed for the hydration, and left wondering if I could tip someone just for bringing me H2O. (Spoiler: I did.) If you go to The Asylum and don’t ask for Ciarra’s water service… did you even really go?”

“I always have such a spectacular time bringing my group of friends and family over! If I’m celebrating a reunion, anniversary, or birthdays your crew never disappoint! I’m a local myself, the different platter of food and drinks are extremely flavorful compared to what I’m used to! 🥰🥂”

“There could be no better location for a dive bar with an attached liquor store. It is smack dab in the middle of the crew ship docks. People coming off the ships gravitate right to it and one never knows what kind of crowd is going to be in there at any time. One of the evenings I thought the place was full of guys, but it was just a group of gals from a lesbian cruise on Holland American. The staff is wonderful, and they do their best to keep people happy. Quite often, one of the bartenders or servers will bring in a crockpot full of something delicious and they put that on the table. Everyone gets a bowl and there’s no charge for it. The walls are covered in Alaska history. I’ve never seen bigger fish,worse shipwrecks, grizzlier lumberjacks or anything that compares to the pictures on the walls there. The prices are very reasonable for Ketchikan. There is a lot of local color in there too as it is a watering hole for a lot of the locals. They have the answer all their questions and I guarantee that they are very willing to share their knowledge with you. So, when you go there, don’t forget to stop at the Sourdough.

Vegetarian options: Are you kidding ? Unless you were thinking about the peanuts and potato chips behind the bar, don’t think about this.

Parking: If you have a 3000 passenger ship, there is adequate parking. Other than that, you don’t have a chance.

Kid-friendliness: I don’t think it’s a place to bring your kids. There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just a place for adults.

Wheelchair accessibility: Everything is on one level and they will be more than accommodating for anyone that needs any kind of help. That’s the kind of people they are.”

“Aw yeah! First and foremost, amazing food with great portions for a fair price! As an out of towner, hours in Ketchikan are awful and unreliable. BUT NOT HERE! AJ’s has convenient hours and fantastic ?burgers, milkshakes are just as good. No indoor seating like the pictures show though but there are picnic tables outside you can use.”

“Everyone we talked with mentioned the Eagle's nest for pizza. They were right. The food was good; the view was spectacular. The eagles were around. The pizza was great. They had a great crust. And the oven made it taste so good. We even had the baked Alaska (which isn't actually an Alaskan dish, but was made to honor Alaska joining the US). Either way it was delicious!”

“B&D Espresso is the best drive-thru coffee stand in Ketchikan, Alaska. They have been in service for over 30 years! Their customer service is top notch. The kind where if they know the vehicle, they know the drink and have the drink ready if there is a line. Loyalty cards are an added bonus with entry to two huge give aways a year. Their iced latte is my favorite. Specialty ordered?!? No problem, they have it all. They also make outstanding coffee milkshakes, hot coffees, fraps, Italian sodas, hot teas, spritzers and many more choices to choose from. Depending which stand you choose - check out their yummy food options, such as bagels, cookies and more.”

Fresh off a cruise ship in Ketchikan, Alaska, I discovered a delightful Chinese restaurant that was the highlight of my trip. This small, family-run spot offers a warm, friendly atmosphere and food that’s cooked with love.

Each dish, from savory stir-fries to flavorful soups, was delicious and authentic, reflecting the chefs’ dedication and skill. Seeing the family eat the same meals they serve was a reassuring sign of quality. We ordered the chow mein noodles with just noodles and meat for the kids, and it was all devoured! The chicken wings are also a must, we loved the Thai soup as well! If we're ever here again, I will stop by!
