My all time favorite place for delicious catfish! I've been dining here for the last 20 years; more so when I lived in Killen. I just WISH they would still do the whole catfish instead of only the filets. Breaking off the fins and eating them along the way is such a missed experience.
Lucky are the eaters who come through the doors of Newbern’s! Grab your own seat inside this roadside eatery, and have a taste of some classic Southern staples. Their famous pond fed catfish dominates the menu. Everything is fried, yet never greasy, with the catfish being crisply coated with a flakey interior, and none of the fishlike flavour of your typical river fish. Food wasn’t very good at all for the price. All of the employees were wearing single use disposable gloves. Never once did we see anyone change their gloves. What we did see was employees going from table to table to working station with the same gloves on. We did watch an older woman wash her hands with the gloves on. Really?? I don’t think the owner realizes that they are spreading more germs while wearing the same gloves from customer to customer. Just basic hand washing...
