Carlos O’Brien’s is the best place for traditional Mexican food in Phoenix! It is our Mexican go to place! We typically eat in the bar at the Norterra location and the service is awesome!
If you want drinks and are a loud 19 year old who just became of legal drinking age then this is the place for you! If you are a foodie like me then avoid ordering any food. You can legit get a fancy steak dinner for two for the price of a few appies and drinks here.

Carlos O'Brien’s Mexican Restaurant in Scottsdale is a hidden gem for anyone who loves bold, flavorful Mexican food without the Scottsdale premium price tag. The place has been serving up authentic, high-quality Mexican fare for decades. The menu is extensive, offering everything from classic street-style tacos and enchiladas to creative specialties and hearty pub-style plates. The spinach con queso dip and the jalapeno cream cheese dip are popular starters. The salsa has a perfect balance of fresh tomatoes and cilantro, and the chips are delicious. For entrées, the Pollo Fundido is a star, with tender chicken breast smothered in a rich cheese sauce. The steak fajitas arrive sizzling with caramelized peppers and onions. The combination plates are a great value, allowing diners to build their own platters with items like a bean tostada, chicken enchilada, cheese tamale, and taquitos. The spinach enchilada dinner is creamy and heavy. Portion sizes are massive. The margaritas are strong and perfectly balanced. The service is always friendly and nice. The ambiance is nice, with comfortable, cool Spanish music playing in the background. For dessert, the fried ice cream is awesome. The restaurant also serves corned beef tacos and other pub food.
