“A hard-to-get reservation worth waiting for!
I've tried many times to snag reservation when they are released each month. Luckily, we have amazing foodie friends who go often and have an in on cancelations.
Bacanora is located on Grand Avenue in Downtown Phoenix. It's an eclectic area with lots of interesting small businesses, murals on the walls, and stuffed animals hanging from the trees along the sidewalks. The restaurant itself is very intimate with only a few tables and some seats at the bar. The Sonoran inspired dishes come from the amazing creativity of Chef Rene Andrade...who won Best Chef - Southwest at the James Beard awards this year (doesn't make getting reservations any easier).
Everything is cooked over an open flame of a wood-fired grill. We let our friends, and foodie hosts, Brandon and Dana lead us through their favorite dishes... and we were not disappointed! We started with elite on the cob, guacamole, ceviche, and crude. With each dish we raved about how we couldn't believe each one could be better than the last. Everything was mouthwatering. The cocktails were unique and perfect as well. The kicker was our entree. The four of us shared the huge platter (not plate) of bone-in ribeye. It was cooked to perfection and accompanied by tortillas, quesadillas, beans, and blistered green chiles.Chiles. We walked out stuffed and high on good conversation and amazing food.“

“Ordered the carne asada fries this time. Plate looked like an art piece when it arrived, but I couldn't restrain myself enough to get a picture of the plate before I dove in. The fries were crisp and golden while perfectly seasoned too, the carne asada and pico de Gallo were the perfect combination of savory and lime. Overall, the whole plate leaves you feeling satisfied with its heartiness and guilt free with its freshly made toppings, 10/10 all across.“

“Never been to Phoenix area before and wanted to find a very local authentic restaurant. We found it....Cocina Madrigal was exactly what we were looking for...We actually sat at the bar since there was a short wait for a table. I was here with a college friend who lived out of the state also. We thoroughly enjoyed the food. We had the combination Taco/Burros/Tamales/Enchiladas...Our gracious bartend/waitress suggested the perfect way they should be prepared. All the employees were very friendly and make you feel incredibly welcomed. Highly recommend and we will return when we are traveling through Phoenix..“

“I only had the chips, Pico and a hard shell chicken taco.
Well the chips were great. The salsas were good. And the chicken was delicious in that taco. Not to mention They sure cook their shells a lot better than a lot of places do.
Came again and gotta 5 star it. The chips, the salsas delicious! The hard taco, the chicken fricken awesome.
Only took 3.5 years to get here...making Mexican Restaurant rounds in Phoenix can take a very long time!!
Probably hit 100 of them by now with hundreds to go! YAY???????????“

“Asada street tacos that hit the spot, generous serving of mouthwatering asada quesadillas, and the piece de resistance, a hearty bowl of amazing Pozole you’ll be dreaming of for days are a few of the many things you can get here. Service is fast and prices are very affordable. If you find yourself in these parts of Arizona, pay them a visit and you’ll leave very much pleased.“

“I was there this past Sunday night- yes, the food was tastey but I am only reviewing because Sayra C. was so friendly- it was late (I was on a stopover), and I was so tired and it was so nice to be greeted by someone so friendly and helpful! I hope she may be recognized in some way- gold standard!“

“The food at this place is authentic. Everything is prepared fresh when ordered, the place is very clean and the staff is very friendly. I think the carne al pastor is the best in Phoenix. I have never tried something so similar to the flavor in Mexico. Thank you. !!!
The food here is authentic Mexican cuisine, all ingredients are fresh and made when you order, I loved that the place is clean I went to try carne al pastor and honestly it was way better than I expected if you want to taste real Mexican flavor this is the place. Thank you!! See you soon!! ??“

“We were staying nearby, and the hotel offered rides to this restaurant. It was happy hour and this place was packed. Sadly, they only had one person working the entire restaurant as far as I could tell, and she was working her butt off doing her best. They had a $5 margarita, and it was made just right, so we had a couple. I ordered off the happy hour menu and look how big the tacos and nachos are. Ridiculous, wife had seafood enchiladas. The whole thing was a great experience, and we will be back. The chips and salsa were worth the trip. The chips were so dang delicious“

“North Phoenix’s best kept secret!! Just had dinner here on Sunday and will plan to be back as many times as possible. The food is delicious, truly authentic Mexican seasonings. For anyone who craves dishes from southern parts of Mexico, you will be blown away by their flavors!
We tried a bit of everything, sopes, chiles rellenos, garlic shrimp, micheladas (must have). We’ll be back to enjoy the rest of their menu and their outstanding service. Thank you!“

“These tamales are so good, the masa is so light/fluffy and they are huge, stuffed with your favorite fillings. We got the green chile chicken, red beef and pumpkin ( which I’m saving for breakfast). Finally a great place to go and eat fresh homemade Mexican food. We haven’t found anyplace we’ve liked since moving here from NM but we have now! If you like tamales you’ve got to eat here!“

“5 star!! A wonderful restaurant with amazing food, fabulous staff and owner. Had red and green enchiladas with flavors equivalent to my hometown in New Mexico. Asked for the spicier salsa and they did not disappoint! Posole to take home was spot on in flavor. Will definitely return next time I'm in town. Special thanks to Shiloh for outstanding service and friendly conversation.“

“Fantastic, authentic Mexican food. I'm usually disappointed when I go out for Mexican food because it's better at home. I was not disappointed here. The chilie rellano was soooo good and there's a little spice to it. Loved the potato tacos. And the drinks are completely on point! The service is friendly and fast. You can't go wrong.“

“Best baja style fish/shrimp tacos in AZ PERIOT!!! Everything was fried and made to order. The pico tastes like it was chopped right then, it was so fresh. I would also recommend eating there so you get the true experience. If not then get salsa and crema on the side so it dont get soggy. Not to forget to mention, the couple that run it are just as amazing which is a double win for me!. Well done @HECHIZASON and can't wait to see the rest of the valley take note... ?❤️????????“

“This place has the spiciest, most flavorful Mexican chow in the city. It is a great place to stop for a quick, delicious bite. Obviously it is not a fancy facility but the food is the best! Cash only!! And very hot outside so plan to get food to go.“

“Tacos Chisco is awesome! The owners/staff are friendly, the location is central and the food is to die for. The Cochinita Pibil, Carnitas, Quessabirria, fresh chips, and amazing drinks are my top recommendations. I haven’t had a bad meal here and the staff has always been more than friendly. The Cochinita Pibil is, “like growing up back home” which is a great compliment coming from my wife. It is that good. My friend said the fish tacos were the best she has ever had. And plenty of TVs with the game on for those that are worried about missing the game. They also have some outdoor games for drinking and family fun. - This past Mother’s Day we decided to try their catering taco bar at home. We were not disappointed and would definitely recommend it. The food was great, the fixings were perfect, and the churros were a hit! I would definitely recommend Tacos Chisco for a great meal.“
