Illegal Pete's offers a lively atmosphere with an open floor plan and a full bar. Mondays are popular for their $3 margaritas all day. The bartender is friendly and provides helpful recommendations. Reviewers enjoyed the fish tacos, carnitas tacos, and chicken quesadillas. The salsas are praised, and the patio on Mill Ave provides a nice setting. The food is considered better and cheaper than Chipotle. The staff is super helpful & knowledgeable about gluten free options, with chips made in a dedicated gluten free fryer. It's an interesting place with interesting branding and fun decor, looking like a hopping place adjacent to the Tempe ASU main campus. Some consider the fish tacos to be some of the best Baja style fish tacos. It is cheap, with some of the best food for less than McDonald's.
