What's not to love!
It is a nice store, upper scale. Pretty small so it variety is limited.
Wonderful place.
Total chaos picking up Christmas Dinner order. Instead of orders sorted by order number, they were sorted by time of pickup, which delayed worker finding orders. Had to go to three different locations to get entire order. No heating instructions online for Brisket and latkes. Never experienced this in the past ordering Thanksgiving or Christmas meals. Whoever coordinated this fiasco should be moved to a checker position or fired.
I’ll give this a 5 for the desserts, flower/plant shop and cooked food they sell here. Everything else is too overpriced and the cashiers seem miserable. There’s two that just seem to have permanent RBF. 😐
The cashier named Heidil was very mean, I seriously doubt she was racist, she was very friendly to white people… But very mean to me and my Asian boyfriend, we didn't even do anything, I thought there was a self-service checkout, and she immediately yelled at me with a straight face, "What are you doing?" just other than that the store was ok but because of her I will not come to this store again.
OVERPRICED UNDERPERFORMING w/ VAST ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT.
Once upon a time this was truly indeed a special place, sadly AJ's has been in slow decline now for the last few years.
AJ's seriously needs to make a decision on providing lip service or customer service, right now they're pretending to be providing customer service but it's really just lip service. Rude, dismissive and indifferent staff is simply unacceptable for any reason!
Given the cost factor involved at this establishment l expect better, not perfection but at least your best effort.
Don't let the appearance of quality fool you. They get very abrasive about photos because still photos reveal things the eyes fail to catch. Dark wood, grey floors and dim lighting can hide mountains of unsanitary conditions. How often do you suppose they bother cleaning if they can hide the grime?
I love AJ's, used to visit locations in Metro Phoenix, and when I moved to Tucson, I was so happy to have access to the store. I always buy my daughter's birthday cake from AJ's, her favorite is the Chocolate Eruption Cake, which went away, and now it's back, so I had to grab her a slice! And, she also likes the Chocolate Mousse Cake, Fruit Tarts, and the stuffed savory croissants. My favorites are the flavored teas and lemonades - since I'm gluten free. Also, the store has a larger selection of Jeni's ice cream - the Goat Cheese with Red Cherries is my favorite - I do think it's a seasonal flavor for Fall or Winter.
Abysmal customer service from the bakery. Called ahead to have a cake made a few days in advance and followed up several times to make sure it was on track. When I went to pick it up on the day and time I was told, the bakery did not have it ready. I was handed and charged for a random cake that I did not order nor did I want. The quality in customer service has taken a nose dive. Do not order cakes here. Spare yourself the headache.

On Thanksgiving day I went to buy Thanksgiving buffet for my family. When i ordered was turkey meal but when i got home opened it there was no meat only turkey skin! I go every year food was fine so never complain. But this time really disappointing.
I go for the coffee and pastries. There just so good and nicely price!
AJ's is basically an upscale supermarket, so the prices reflect that. However, the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to help customers! Half of the space offers prepared foods and beverages that can be purchased and eaten on-site. The store also offers international and organic products and gifts that can't be easily found offline.
The AJ saved us in the USA!
High end grocery store, great deli, wood fire pizza, and sushi bar. Very good produce, alcohol selection, cute holiday decorations. It is pricey but worth it
