I'm writing this as we wait. Contemplated cancelling but there's not much other options around so we feel stuck.Whatever came so far was tasty. Haven't had a chance to taste the other food, but feel like I need to give them a poor review for the long wait. Beautiful venue, with big windows opening to a quiet bay featuring an iconic small island. The building certainly embraces the beauty of the surroundings.Our service was good. A small order mix-up was happily and readily fixed, alongside a tiny bonus for the confusion. The service wasn't always the most attentive, but it met my expectations.Out group cumulatively had the Duck Sammy, Seafood Chowder, Beef Dip, Fish and Chips, and Homefried Chicken. A kids menu was available and made known to us without asking.The food had some absolute bangers, and some duds. So, mixed results.The Duck Sammies were 100% fantastic, with the crispy skins and cherry preserve really stealing the show.The Beef Dip was generously portioned, but the experience made less awesome by the dip being provided in a much-too-small plastic container. How was I to jam my big sandwich into such a tiny dip container? The mystery was never solved.The Seafood Chowder was, by the commentary of all three people who requested it, the star of the show. Big chunks of flakey fish. A rich, buttery chowder. And no shortage of veggies. Clams would have been a welcomed addition (we didn't detect any, if they were there), but that critique shouldn't be taken as a slight against this excellent dish.On the less enthusiastic side, the Fish and Chips was very underwhelming. Flavour less batter encrusting a very delicately flavoured fish. The tartar (?) sauce more mayo than anything else. And the sauce that came with the yam fries was aggressively spicey.The Fried Chicken was more batter than chicken, and the batter wasn't all that great. In fact, the group member who ordered this ended up cutting the chicken out of the batter and just eating it, because the batter was overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time. The veggies that accompanied were excellent, and the sauce was also excellent.

I visited this restaurant hoping for a delightful experience, but unfortunately, it fell short. The chicken burger resembled fast food quality, featuring a subpar chicken cut and excessive oil. The lettuce showed signs of discoloration and lacked freshness. The Mediterranean calamari salad was disappointing, with flavorless vinegar feta, unsalted calamari, and limp greens. The price does not align with the disappointing food quality. Despite the beautiful venue and stunning ocean views, the overall experience was marred. Oh

I really can't fault them for anything. The Brussels sprouts were excellent, already eaten in the photo. I was concerned the coleslaw with the fish and chips would be too sweet but it was really fresh tasting and savoury. View is gorgeous and staff were nice and friendly.

We have had a place on Mayne for a long time now and we go here almost every time. The food is so good, comforting and always amazing. It’s probably my favourite restaurant. After a long cold dark hike we come here and have an amazing dinner. I’ve noticed people saying the service is slow but for a small town extremely busy restaurant it can get overwhelming, but for my family we’ve never noticed it. This is a huge recommendation for a comfort meal when your power goes out haha.

I wanted to celebrate my 83rd birthday on Mayne Island with my wife and sent an email requesting a reservation a week before. I received no acknowledgment and came to the restaurant today and again requested a table for two for my special day. When we arrived for dinner, they had the reservation but no table was ready! After a short delay a table became vacant and we were sat at a nice window table. 85 minutes after ordering, the meals arrived and the food was terrible. Steak was tough and the fries were stuck in a bunch. We ate what we could and left after a most disappointing birthday dinner.
