About Kitchen Kodama (Oko-nomi -yaki)

Kitchen Kodama (Oko-nomi-yaki) on Salt Spring Island offers an authentic Hiroshima and Osaka-style Okonomiyaki experience. Despite the Sunday closures mentioned online, the stand remains open, serving delicious dishes like Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki with noodles and flavorful gyozas. The owner, with minimal English, takes orders via a paper form, providing a unique and personalized service. The covered seating area offers a pleasant spot for lunch before catching the ferry back to Vancouver. Visitors find this Japanese-owned gem a unique experience on the culturally homogeneous island, operating on classic island hours from 11:30 to 5 or 6 daily.

Customers praise the authentic and high-quality Okonomiyaki, with one reviewer noting it was the best they had since their visit to Hiroshima. The restaurant also features the soothing music of Tatsuro Yamashita, which enhances the overall dining experience. Reviewers highlight the fresh, handmade preparation of the dishes, which sets this place apart from other Japanese restaurants in the area. The beautiful food truck park location, coupled with the passionate chef's culinary expression, create a truly memorable experience for visitors.

Authentic, fresh, unique, and absolutely delicious!
We happened across this food truck while visiting Salt Spring. It exceeded any expectations and I highly recommend it!

Hidefumi is so nice and very skilled. His food is consistently amazing and I recommend it to anyone who would like to eat authentic Japanese cuisine on the island.
