About Arirang Restaurant

Arirang Restaurant is a cozy, family-run Korean eatery with a warm atmosphere. The food is good, with decent portions, and prices are very reasonable. Daily specials are recommended. Parking can be tight, but the back entrance is accessible. The restaurant serves traditional Korean dishes, including hot pot with a unique sweet and spicy flavor. Homemade kimchi is also available. Many customers praise their pork bone soup, which has a rich umami flavor and is considered one of the best in Canada. The kimchi stew (김치찌개) is highly regarded, often compared to setting the standard for others. The black cod is described as finger licking good. The atmosphere is not too upscale, with most guests being Korean, and the focus is on authentic, traditional Korean fare rather than fusion dishes. It is seen as a hidden gem, offering some of the best quality authentic Korean food in Vancouver and the lower mainland. The seafood pancake, tofu soup, and cabbage with pork are also favorites, and there is anticipation to try their cold noodles in the summer.

Although I'm not Korean, seeing a tour bus full of Korean tourists enjoying their meals with happy faces speaks volumes about the authenticity and flavour of their soup. I’ve been ordering the same soup for many years, and the level of umami is indescribable. Their ribs are just meh; on par with food court quality, ok to skip. But their backbone...read full review

The best 김치찌개 (kimchi stew) that I've had so far in Canada in the past 40ish years! It's a simple, traditional dish, and as is the case with hamburger, everyone has their own take on how it should be done. Arirang Hot Pot in Guildford sets the standard by which I compare all others.

As to their other Korean dishes, they are also good, but more or less on par with orger good Korean eateries. Ambience isn't too upscale, and almost all of the clientele are Korean,...read full review
