BeaverTails is a small, busy hole-in-the-wall spot in downtown Victoria, known for its classic flat Canadian doughnut. The fried dough base is always cooked great, with crispy edges and a soft middle. Popular choices include the Killaloe Sunrise Beavertail, Bananrama, Mehple, BrWOWnie, and Strawberry Cheesecake. The BrWOWnie features chocolate hazelnut spread, warm brownie chunks, chocolate sauce, and powdered sugar, while the Strawberry Cheesecake has cream cheese frosting, strawberry sauce, and graham cracker crumble. Seasonal flavors have also been very good recently. Seating is extremely limited—only two sidewalk tables with four chairs—so guests may need to walk to find a place to sit, especially when a ship is in port. The location tends to run out of items, so having a second and third choice ready is recommended. Service is friendly and neutral, and the ambiance is great. Though there are few BeaverTail stores around, this spot is worth the hassle for visitors from cruise ships, as other countries, particularly the U.S., are woefully lacking in similar establishments.
