Maham & Pop's Donair & Poutine

It’s -7 degrees outside, had a sit in dinner and we were frozen along with our food. No heating around dinning tables? Come on guys, I’m a regular customer and today I left with a bad taste in my mouth. Even no heating in the back? went to wash my hands and washroom was like walk in cooler. Please don’t tell me it’s broken, I have noticed before too but didn’t mind as weather was bearable but this cold snap it was comfortable eating there. Very disappointed!!

Read a few reviews after coming here that said the chicken was dry and maybe it's a consistency thing but my shawarma was pretty solid. Sauces and veggies were good, meat was juicy and had good char. Garlic sauce could stand to be a bit stronger for my liking but that's probably not to everyone's taste, I'll just order extra next time. Only other shawarma I've enjoyed on the island was way out in Sidney so I'll definitely be coming back here.

I’ve been a regular at Maham’s since it opened because there are not many quality donair places in Victoria. Quality has gone down which is unfortunate. I always order the regular beef donair poutine and often I would receive a ton of beef and sweet sauce. However, I ordered it today and I think I got 5 pieces of beef in total and the rest of the box was filled with fries. There was minimal sweet sauce and the staff perhaps heard me incorrectly and gave me red onions instead of green onions for the veggies which was not the end of the world but not ideal. The staff seemed in a frenzy despite there being few orders in the cafe. It is unfortunate because staff are quite lovely but often rushing to complete other orders while still getting them wrong. There was an individual who ordered before I did and had ordered extra meat, they had to ask again for extra meat as they didn’t not receive what they paid for. An entire order of poutine was missed as well for a different order. I think the main issue is that customers come in and do not get what they receive whether it be in a timely manner or what they ordered. I hope the place can improve because the food is normally quite good, I just wish that there was more beef in the poutine as I personally don’t want a ton of fries and minimal beef.

The service was great n friendly. The beef donair meat was spicy n delicious. Not enough tomatoes n onions for size of donair. Most disappointed with sweet sauce. Too runny n no flavour. Made the wrap soggy!

I rarely leave reviews, but Maham and Pops serves the best BabaGanoush I have had in years. Tabbouleh, rice, and garlic sauce excellent as well. I will be back. Thank you.

I have now had the opportunity to eat at this little gem of a place in Victoria. After trying it the first time I had do go back a few more times as their menu has some great options and is very fairly priced. The portions are on the larger side and very filling. The chicken Shawarma plate … the Donair and all the options they have for poutine made with real cut fries is amazing. Weather you. Like beef chicken vegetarian or if you are a vegan they have it all covered in their menu. The staff are extremely friendly and the restaurant is so clean and tidy very welcoming. I don’t complain about food but my god. Got chicken shawarma wrap. Was meh. Dry/cold chicken, zero flavour. Asked for tzatziki, hummus and garlic sauce and couldn’t taste any of it. There was 1 other person in store ordering food, my meal still took way longer than it should have. Second time here, tried giving them a chance. Unfortunately I can’t see myself giving this place another opportunity for a while.

I had a delicious chicken wrap , the beef is also good with a special sweet Donair sauce, you can add whatever you want from both sauces and veggies,big and tasty wraps

The food is excellent, and the free can of pop is nice. Would recommend to anyone looking for a Halal bite to eat.
