Best Restaurants for National Bacon Day Across the US
National Bacon Day, celebrated on December 30, is a great opportunity for all bacon lovers to celebrate this delicious ingredient. The day was created in 1997 by friends Dan Goodman and Meff Leonard as an informal holiday that allows people to come together around their love for bacon, offering an alternative to traditional winter holidays. Since then, National Bacon Day has become popular among food enthusiasts across the country.
History of Bacon
Bacon has a long history that spans thousands of years. It is believed that the first references to it appeared as early as 1500 BC in China, where pork was salted and preserved. This practice quickly spread through the Roman Empire, where bacon became a popular food. The word "bacon" comes from the Old English "bacoun," meaning "back," and was originally used to describe various types of pork.
Over the centuries, bacon has evolved, and today it is enjoyed for breakfast and in various dishes—from sandwiches to desserts. For example, bacon is often added to salads, burgers, or even chocolate candies.

As RH furniture owners and lovers, we couldn’t wait to try the restaurant in their gallery. We did not have a reservation and got seated within 15 minutes. However, I would recommend a reservation in the future, even for lunch on a weekday, as it was really busy. The decor and ambience were beautiful. We got the lobster roll, chicken sandwich, and fries for food. The lobster roll was absolutely amazing - the lobster was cooked perfectly and not chewy whatsoever. I also appreciated that it was not drenched in mayo. The fries were crispy and seasoned well. My husband liked his sandwich. Our only complaint would be how slow the service was, which doesn’t seem to be the norm in Chicago.
