Carl's Jr. Launches Mobile Game to Increase Loyalty Membership
Fast food chain Carl's Jr. found a clever way to get customers to download its app and sign up for the company's loyalty rewards program, by launching a "Need Burger, Get Burger" mobile game.
Through the end of October, players who guide a digital car to collect burgers while dodging obstacles like stop signs and traffic cones can win daily prizes. Carl's Jr., which has around 1,060 locations under CKE Restaurants, is giving away thousands of free menu items including large fries, large drinks, Famous Star burgers, Diablo Burgers, Bacon Western Burgers, and Guacamole Burgers, though additional purchases may be required. Players can also score percentage discounts on their orders.

To get the freebies, customers need to download the Carl's Jr. app and either sign into their My Rewards account or create one if they're not already a member. Any prizes won in the game must be redeemed by the end of the year.
Carl's Jr. is far from the only restaurant chain to use games to boost engagement and loyalty. Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, and Chipotle have all offered games on their apps to keep customers coming back and spending more. There's a good reason for this trend: loyalty members typically spend up to 18% more than non-members, according to Salesforce data.
The Need Burger, Get Burger game is Carl's Jr.'s latest move in an ongoing push to get more diners signed up for My Rewards. Earlier this year on the day after the Super Bowl, the chain offered free Western Bacon Cheeseburgers to loyalty members. That promotion alone got over 200,000 people to join, increasing the program's membership by about 20%.
