Phnom Penh Restaurant was my first introduction to Cambodian food about 20 years ago when they were located in Oakland Chinatown. For those not familiar, I find the flavors similar to Thai food with the use of lemongrass, curry, galangal, lime, peanuts and tend to have a sweet component but milder than Thai food. Based on the reviews that I saw on Yelp I really wanted to try this place in Alameda. It is located very conveniently on Webster Street and they were open for take out during the shelter in place. I called the restaurant to place the order and they said it would take 15-20 minutes. It was about 3:45 p.m. and there were no other customers with take out orders when we arrived to pick up. We were so DISAPPOINTED in our food when we got home - we ordered: - Singapore noodles full review
Smaller than I thought but service was good. Ordered 3 dishes for a group of 2: - Prahok kitiss: flavoring is soo good with the fresh veggies! - beef sour soup: kinda felt like they skimped on this one with the veggies and meat as I feel like it was more soup ratio to solids. I had to fish out the meat and veggies. Good flavor profile though. - famous eggplant meat and shrimp dish: truly disappointed, extremely sweet, I could barely eat it with rice. Took it home and full review
